This is a request for a full CSS editor.
- Syntax Highlighting (hopefully enhance the plaintext editor to take a lexical
spec as a parameter so it can be used for a HTML/XML source editor, bug #14526)
- Syntax Checking (maybe share bug #6211 CSS checking facilities? also would be
nice for source editor)
- Easy way to get to the CSS Standard and a CSS Reference
- Stylesheet Preview (either with a specific HTML/XML file, or even better,
automatically generate content to try to demo the stylesheet)

I wrote in Bug 17533:
Funny... It seems to me that Bug 17534 is a simple css editor
(just some syntax checking and highlighting) while this bug
is in fact a request for a full-fledged css editor (GUI only,
no exposure of the code). I agree with you: "it would be nice
if..." but I'm not sure we want to commit to that business
even more. Closing as Later.

I don't know what "graphical" views of CSS are, but if it's supplied, it would
be nice to consider it one view, and the css source another, like is being
suggested for the page editor (bug #14526).

Pierre -- I put this out to M20, with other RFEs, so we have a designated time
to thoroughly review the requests and determine if it is feasible and if we
really want to accept the request.

> Easy way to get to the CSS Standard and a CSS Reference
covered by CSS 2 Quickref sidebar
http://devedge.netscape.com/toolbox/sidebars/
> Stylesheet Preview (either with a specific HTML/XML file, or even better,
> automatically generate content to try to demo the stylesheet)
covered by CaScadeS landing, bug 161663. All modifs on a sheet are immediately
previewed in the document
> Syntax Highlighting
this is out of scope for CSS ; you want HTML syntax highlighting, please file
another bug just for that if you still want it and if it does not exist yet
> - Syntax Checking
that's the only thing we can perhaps do here : we already have HTML validation
using the W3C HTML validator, we could have CSS validation using W3C CSS
validator. Changing summary.
Summary: [enhancement] CSS Editor → [RFE] call W3C CSS validator to validate stylesheets

I am closing this bug because (a) it's really too old (b) it covers more than
one issue/RFE.
I spun off bug 310449 and assigned it to Nadine St-Amand,
a new Editor and Nvu peer. I will add her to the despot list shortly.
FYI, I am also working on CSS syntax highlighting and Nadine will probably work
on the CSS validator's integration when she has spare time.
