User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:97.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/97.0
Steps to reproduce:
1- type a text in the address bar
2- press enter
Disabled search in address bar according to every single article in firefox support page I could find (over 100 of them)
Actual results:
my default Search engine page opened searching for my text
Expected results:
It should say site not found or something like that!
When I have a separate search bar enabled,
"ABSOLUTELY NO SEARCH SHOULD HAPPEN IN ADDRESS BAR AT ALL"

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Address Bar' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.

Just set keyword.enabled to false in about:config to have the address bar not search by default.
I think the only bug here is the confusing Search with Google placeholder when keyword.enabled it set to false.
Please let us know if that setting is still not sufficient for your needs, with an example of a string you searched or a screen cast.
Browser is updated to 99.0.1
keyword.enabled is already set to false,
Putting an invalid address in address bar will fail with Hmm. We’re having trouble finding that site.
However address bar is still showing search with google.
Also Search with is updating to whatever search engine I have set for searching in search bar.
Also I noticed search bar which previously was showing icon of search engine in use now only shows a magnifier which is real inconvenient. I would like to see which search engine I'm currently using
moreover previously I could set search engine for session duration too and changing search engine then I could enter my search phrase and press enter to open the search results.
Currently selecting any other search engine from search menu immediately opens a search tab which adds one more step to search.
Note that when keyword.enabled
is not set and separate address bar and search bar is selected, I believe still no search should be done via address bar at all (always treat it as address) but probably only simple www. .com correction to address.
In a scenario which we have interanets (http://staging ) we just enter staging. sometimes the staging server is restarting and firefox opens google search instead, and until browser is restarted, every time staging entered, it will open same google page even if staging server is back online.
