The code I landed isn't enabled by default, and wouldn't have touched this.

This would more likely have been caused by/related to bug 1726465

What is the fxrecorder? Does it base on Marionette? If yes where is the code? Basically nothing should have changed for default WebDriver sessions even with bug 1726465 landed. But I would be eager to see some trace logs (with preference remote.log.level=Trace set) in case Marionette is indeed used.
