User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:101.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/101.0
Steps to reproduce:
- Launch Firefox (Windows or Ubuntu)
- Type "sennheiser" in the address bar
- Click a custom search provider's icon (e.g. Wikipedia)
Actual results:
UI elements change in the address bar (see screenshots)
Expected results:
I expected to see a list of search results on Wikipedia or the Sennheiser Wikipedia page.
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/search-firefox-address-bar says that "You can choose an alternative search type and use it for your search with one click if you don't want to use the current default."

Drew, is that something we should care about for the releases in flight?

This is the expected behavior of the search mode feature in the urlbar. Bug 1658994 has already been filed for this, so I'll dupe it. This is a "regression" in the sense that this behavior was introduced in the update2 design (bug 1658326) and therefore didn't exist before then, but it's not a bug.
The sentence in the support page is probably left over from a previous urlbar design and should be changed. I'll file a separate bug for that.
