This meta ticket tracks building on the Windows background update system to show Windows native notifications when Firefox has updated in the background (and additional targeting restrictions are met). The initial request from the product organization is here.

I propose a rather grand integration of existing Firefox technologies into the existing background task infrastructure. In particular, I intend to:

• enable Nimbus experiments in background task mode: Bug 1764603
• integrate background tasks with the Firefox Messaging System: Bug 1775133

This work depends on enabling Windows native notifications: Bug 1644104, and sundry improvements in that space.

No longer depends on enabling native notifications: we can enable native notifications and COM server via about:config tweaks per background task.
