Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:102.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/102.0

Steps to reproduce:

I've done a fresh install of Thunderbird 102 on macOS 12.4 (Monterey). On this system, Thunderbird does not see any of the contacts stored in the OS Contacts application.

Within Thunderbird, the Address book -> Mac OS X Address Book screen shows "no contacts available", despite there being many contacts visible within the Contacts application provided in the OS. Email addresses listed in the Contacts application are not suggested when entering new names/addresses in the To/CC/BCC fields when composing messages (unless the addresses are also store in another address list, such as collected addresses).

Actual results:

This issue might be due to "enhanced" OS security features added in more recent macOS releases.

The OS System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> Privacy -> Contacts screen does not list Thunderbird as a program that has ever requested access to the OS Contacts, and there is no way to manually enable/disable this access from this screen for Thunderbird unless the OS reports that the program has actually requested access.

Expected results:

Previous versions of Thunderbird (e.g. 91) showed addresses listed in the OS application in the Thunderbird Address book -> Mac OS X Address Book screen and also suggested these addresses in the To/CC/BCC fields when composing messages.
