Affected versions

  • 105.0a1(2022-08-08)

Affected platforms

  • macOS 11
  • Windows 11

Steps to reproduce

  1. Launch FF.
  2. Activate the browser.tabs.firefox-view pref.
  3. Perform browsing activity on the device(closing each website accessed).
  4. Go to about:firefoxview.
  5. Click on any website.

Expected result

  • The opened page should not have the back button active.

Actual result

  • The opened page has the back button active, and clicking it takes the user to about:newtab

Regression range

  • New Feature

Additional notes

  • This happens for websites that are accessed and no traffic is performed further into them.
  • For websites that have further traffic within them, the back button takes the user back through the history carousel performed on that website.
  • This issue DOES NOT reproduce in Ubuntu 22.

Thanks for flagging this! I think this could be an issue we discuss at a later time to revisit how we might think about updating this behavior. But for now, this logic aligns with current behavior for a New Tab (even outside of the the context of FxView). We'll accept this and proceed for the moment.
