The configure option --with-user-appdir is currently useless. It defines MOZ_USER_DIR (default=".mozilla"), but outside configure files this definition goes completely unused. I have a patch which fixes this, but it's a bit of a hack. If applied, nothing changes, unless --with-user-appdir is used. I've tested it.
