summary sez it all: sound notification is broken in mach-o for type ahead find.

speaking of mach-o and sounds: stephend, does the mail notification sound work
for mach-o builds? if you don't know or have time to check, i'll look into it in
a bit...

Sarah, most likely it behaves as in bug 169414, though I haven't checked myself.

See also http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=64462#c148. On Linux, we'll
play the default system sound, no matter what file you choose (according to the
comments). Unfortunately, I haven't had time to actually verify bug 64462 on any
platforms yet.  I should get this cleared up when I return to the trunk.

stephend, thanks for the bug ref --turns out the sound (at least when using the
system beep) works fine for mail notification on both mach-o and cfm builds.

had chatted w/aaronl, who mentioned that the implementation of sound for TAF
differs from the mail notification sound. perhaps similar to bug 179817?

actually, this had been working fine in mach-o --i checked with a build from
11/5, before bug 176602 was fixed. with that older build, it just used the
system beep.

It's not a regression. We chose not to use the system beep anymore. We don't
want that annoying beep, we want a nice bloop sound.

The "Play sound | System Alert Sound" option doesn't work for me in Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.4; en-US; rv:1.9.1b4pre) Gecko/20090319 Shredder/3.0b3pre, but I'm not sure this is the right bug for that.

Yeah, that's what I wonder about this bug. When I search via type ahead or the find bar itself the beep is played when a string cannot be found. Is this bug about this problem? If yes, we could close it.
