User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.2b) Gecko/20021029 Phoenix/0.4
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.2b) Gecko/20021029 Phoenix/0.4
I looked for this in bugzilla and did not see this listed nor did I see it
listed in known issues. I see no "new folder" button in the window dialogue that
pops up after you select "add bookmark" from the "bookmarks" menu list. This
makes keeping bookmarks well sorted more of a hassle by having to use the manage
bookmark system later.
[folders and links also do not have icons in this list. I think that has already
been mentioned, but I thought I would mention it.]
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.click bookmarks > add to bookmarks >
2.
3.
Actual Results:
No button to create a new folder.
Expected Results:
Phoenix really should have a "new folder" button there.

Setting severity to enhancement and marking as NEW. While I appreciate that the
Add Bookmark dialog is clean, this is a feature that I have been missing.
Severity: normal → enhancement
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
OS: Windows XP → All

After doing another search, I see this was given as input before. I don't know
why the bugzilla search engine did not show these before. Specifically mainly
bug id=171807. What I don't see is a resolution to this problem yet even though
the main bug that keeps getting pointed to as a duplicate of this and all the
other ones is marked as RESOLVED and FIXED from 10/1/2002. It is exremely
inconvenient and irratating to say the least to have to open the bookmark
manager or bookmarks toolbar just to add a new folder when I should have to use
either just to add a bookmark. It should be more tranparent and "on the fly" I
suggest a working new folder button be added to the add bookmark dialogue
please. Therefore I am leaving this as NEW as I don't want it marked resolved.

I should point out that after I re-read bug #171807 that the comments that were
made seem to be talking about two different things in the same bug report. It
seems that some were talking about the manage bookmarks dialogue when others
were talking about the add to bookmarks dialogue, so this may or may not be
considered a duplicate. To clarify, Phoenix needs a working "new folder" button
in the add to bookmarks dialogue.
[Sorry for multiple posts, but I felt clarification was needed.]

I hope that if this as been decided against previously that this be seriously
reconsidered. It is a serious inconvenience to not have this button in the add
bookmark dialogue box. There is something to say about a function that is
available like this in probably 99% of the browsers out there. Why keeping this
button/function out of the Phoenix browser in the name of keeping the interface
"clean" is beyond me considering the inconvenience it causes.
Thank you.

I tested Phoenix 0.5 for the first time and this was one thing that i noticed
right away.
Now if I want to add a bookmark in a new folder i have to go through these steps.
1. Bookmarks/Bookmark Managaer
2. Click on New Folder.. and create the new folder
3. Close the Bookmark Manager
4. Add Bookmark
A lot of unnecessary steps just to create a new bookmark in a new folder.

I just filed Bug 207706, which has quite a bit of relation to this bug. It
might provide a much more receptive interface to adding the "new folder" button
in the "add bookmark" dialogue.

This is one of the few features that I miss from Firebird. When you add an item
to the bookmark, it's very natural that you want to store it in a new folder,
especially if you are a clean type who stores bookmarks in a neat, organised
manner. I hope there's room to consider adding this feature to Firebird, if not
right away. If it was decided against already, I'd appreciate your
reconsidering it.
layout/spacing would probably need to be tweaked, and some elements might need
to be rearranged or renamed, but the main addition here is obviously the radio
options to either:
* Use existing folder
o Create new folder: __________
i kept the "Create in:" dropdown seperate and put it at the top, because it
controls both where the bookmark and the folder go. if "Create new folder:" is
selected, it will go into whatever folder is selected in the dropdown, whether
it's the bookmarks top-level or any other. i guess that limits folder creation
at this point to only one level deep, but it's better than none. how often is
deeper-than-one-level folder created when adding a bookmark?
the "Bookmark all tabs" checkbox remains. but with this method, you aren't
forced to bookmark all tabs into a new folder - you can drop them in an
existing folder if you want. if "all tabs" is checked, the "Name:" textbox
would have to be disabled, since default names are used when marking multiple
tabs, and there's probably no simple way to handle naming of multiple marks.
i think this is a little more simple and elegant than having a "new folder"
button leading to a popup dealy and all that, or having the IE-style "create in
>>" extender thing. it remains clean and uncomplicated - very similar to the
original.

About attachment 128671 [details], I find it a bit confusing I must say.
What confuses me is that first I have to choose what folder to store the
bookmark in , then after that I see the name of the bookmark, so far so good,
but then I see the "Use existing folder", didnt I just choose a folder? The
naming "Existing folder" is for me confusing.
Should be "create in x" or "create in new folder". Only those 2 options.
Still I find IE:s way simpler than this one.

Either bug 207706 is a dupe of this or vice versa. If you're going to argue
about the best way to do the dialog, I'd recommend doing it in mozillazine.

This obviously has some value to users, I'm not sure if/why this was decided
against, but it'd be nice to have it for the record.

Have a look at Bookmarks-Manager Bookmarks-Move (on its toolbar): Tree view
plus new folder button. Bug 178514 asks for a tree view.

Has this been decided? The simple solution (from an interface standpoint) would
be to simply have New Folder.. be at the top of the dropdown menu, so like this:
Create In:
Bookmarks--> this would be the default selection
New Folder..
---
existing folders

If it was decided to not do this, can someone explain why? I too would love to
have this feature. It's a big pain to have to jump through a bunch of hoops to
file a bookmark in a new folder.

Somebody may or may not respond. If they don't, I would search the forum or ask
on the forum. I too strongly support this feature request.. (to emphasize that
my opinion hasn't changed.)

Pierre,
The new folder button works great. On my linux build of today, it functions
perfectly, but has no label.
picky picky, I know :)
I'm trying to figure out if its just my build or was an oversight.
thanks.
