User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win 9x 4.90; en-US; rv:1.0.1) Gecko/20020826 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win 9x 4.90; en-US; rv:1.0.1) Gecko/20020826 WinME, Mozilla 1.0.1 from http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/releases/mozilla1.0.1/mozilla-win32-1.0.1-installer.exe The Window is either maximized, or minimized. When I click on the middle button (top right of the browser window), it changes it's graphic (toggle one to two windows icons), but neither before nor after clcking I can resize the window to say half my screen. Strange issue. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
you're using a rather ancient version of mozilla. Please use a newer build to see if the problem still persist. Also, could it be that your not so maximized browser window accidentally is the size of full screen? Have you tried resizing it?
"you're using a rather ancient version of mozilla. Please use a newer build to see if the problem still persist." Now tested latest Mozilla 1.2: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win 9x 4.90; en-US; rv:1.2) Gecko/20021125 The problem persists. "Also, could it be that your not so maximized browser window accidentally is the size of full screen? Have you tried resizing it?" Yep; impossible. It seems to always be the first window; the next ones I open, I can resize.
can you see the window borders when it is not maximized? if not, have you tried moving the window (by dragging the title bar down and to the right) to shift the borders onto the screen?
"can you see the window borders when it is not maximized? if not, have you tried moving the window (by dragging the title bar down and to the right) to shift the borders onto the screen?" I can't reproduce it anymore. But I don't think it's a good idea to expect the user to carry out all you are suggesting; instead, usability should be improved, IMHO.

I guess that what happened is some web page or another checked the screen size and resized the browser window to be that exact size, making the resize borders go just off the screen. I've seen the same thing happen in IE. then of course mozilla remembers the last position it was in when you close it down, so next time you start up, it's still off the screen. just checked IE, and I see that if you move IE partly off the screen, when you close and reopen, it moves itself back on to the screen - that is, it won't save an offscreen position. don't see why mozilla couldn't do something similar. if Tobias doesn't mind, I'll reopen this and make it an enhancement request to see if anyone else thinks it's a good idea.

Great idea! That's the spirit ... :)
Depends on: 162090
Lessee ... bug 162029 (recently fixed) forces persistent window positions completely on-screen. bug 162090 (recently fixed) prevents persistent window size from being larger than the screen. Windows opened through script are already constrained to fit on-screen (though not quite correctly in some cases; see bug 176342). Windows opened through script are however currently not constrained no larger than the screen! But that's bug 118717. This bug is fixed or a duplicate or something. Closing.
