Steps to reproduce:
Created search of trash with subject and date. Selected last in results list, Opened mail. Used "b" key to view previous message. Selected item from center of list, used "f" key to view next item.
Actual results:
Previous (b) and next (f) Returned non-related mail from trash.
Expected results:

I don't know anything about Folder Modes. My standard layout is list of accounts in left pane with folders under each account name. Some accounts are collapsed, some expanded. Message list (currently open folder) in right pane. Sometimes other things in tabbed right pane. All messages open in separate window.

I agree, order of messages returned is strange. I tested using a random saved search, not on trash folder. The messages being displayed by F and B are from some order other than what is shown in the message list - at least for me. But I don't know what the order is.
I don't use this type of key navigation, so I'm not in a great position to know past/correct behavior.
Does it happen for folders other than Trash?
Does it happen in version 102?
The messages shown are correct when not in the standalone message window?

Created search of trash with subject and date. Selected last in results list, Opened mail. Used "b" key to view previous message. Selected item from center of list, used "f" key to view next item.
I didn't follow this precise STR. I simply opened a message in the middle of the list, and did P and B, the message shown in standalone window was almost never what I expected. I tried message list ordered by date and also by location.
See screenshot. Searched for Correspondent containing "face" - got list shown. Selected and opened one at random. "b" moved to previous mail in folder by DATE (not previous in search results). "f" moved to next mail in folder by DATE (not next in search results).
TB 113.0b6 on Win 11, 64 bit.
Tried search in a different folder in a different account with same result. Tried b & f in a random account (sorted by date) and they worked as expected (i.e., next & prev by date). Seems to be a problem within the search results.

We haven't been passing on the view wrapper to about:message, so it has been creating its own using the folder of the message displayed. This is wrong if we weren't looking at that folder.
