Steps to reproduce:
I like a compact view. Specially on the subject column there is a unnecessary spacing.
Actual results:
More space occupied then needed
Expected results:
Make it as compact as possible

I don't expect these to change.
- The width of the attachment column is consistent other columns that have only an icon - star, spam, etc.
- The space you have indicated for the subject column is reserved for a) caret when there are multiple messages to expand and collapse a thread, and b) followup indicators reply, forward, etc
Well it has changed from the 112 version. Although there is no need for more spacing.

You mean from the 102 version?
Your last screen shot suggests that a required step is missing in comment 0, View > Sort > Unthreaded causes what you are seeing (which is not the default).
Correct. Previous version is 102. And both views has thread view disabled (my default)
But please check the comparison. Also noticed the size column is align to the right instead left. Left make more sense for the alignment of the units.

*Left instead of right. Right make more sense

Al right, this information was missing and indeed it changes things.
Sure, we can remove the space for the chevron icon if we're in an unthreaded scenario.
