If the concern is that any mistyped URL would send you to the search engine a la MSExplorer, then make it a configurable disabled-by-default option, and only search in the case of an illegal URL (right now it opens an alert window saying "the URL is illegal and cannot be opened", so it means I hit four keys to do a search: <enter> instintively, <enter> again to close the alert window, <down> to select "search google for" and <enter> again.
