after restarting computer, all settings in the mail client and browser are lost.
bookmarks are unaffected. this happens to me quite frequently, especially if
another application crashes or causes an abnormal shutdown during the same
session. it is really starting to **** me off, as i lose all my downloaded mail
as well!

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. use mozilla mail client. close app and get on with other work.
2. use another program which crashes or abnormally terminates session
3. restart mozilla and attempt to check email with mail client

Actual Results:
mozilla forgets all settings except bookmarks... loses downlaoded mail and
forces me to re-enter all mail server settings and homepage

Expected Results:
...ummmm.... get my mail as expected, make some tea and wish me a nice day.... :-)
this is a dup of several other bugs about losing your prefs.js file - it's not a
mail bug, or a mail database bug. It's a profile mgr bug.

you haven't lost your downloaded mail at all - it's still on disk; you just need
to point your new account at the existing mail directory on disk by going into
the account settings for your pop3 account and specifying the local directory.
