This way the user would be able 1. to sort messages in digest-mails by a criteria (eg. thread), 2. reply to individual mails in digests, 3. This should be a dupe of bug 147567, but it depends on what the final interface will be. Bug 147567 is only interested in the possibility of opening individual messages, not a full folder or thread

Interesting enough, it's been quite a while that this has been posted and not fixed. May I ask what's the status of this issue now?
