Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; WinNT4.0; de-AT; rv:1.1) Gecko/20020826 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; WinNT4.0; de-AT; rv:1.1) Gecko/20020826 in the preferences I have chosen that when hitting CTRL+ENTER in the URL bar a new tab should be opened. It would be nice if the same happened when hitting CTRL+ENTER in the history drop down list. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Have several items in your history list 2.open the history list (click on the arrow - you get the point :-) 3.Press CTRL+ENTER on an highlighted entry Actual Results: Now that link is loaded in the same tab Expected Results: It could have opened another tab.

it opens in a new window for me (maybe because i'm using multizilla) Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.2.1; MultiZilla v1.1.32 final) Gecko/20021130

I checked again - now with MultiZilla v1.1.32. In the preferences there's the option "MultiZilla ->Links ->Open new Tabs for ->Location Bar". If it is checked, a new tab is opened everytime you go to a new address via the location bar. No matter if you press CTRL+Enter or just Enter and no matter if you type the URL or choose it from the history drop down list. What I complained about, was that w/o MultiZilla (or w/o that option) Mozilla would open a new tab if you pressed CTRL+Enter in the URL bar but not if you pressed CTRL+Enter in the history drop down list. I believe this behavior to be inconsistent. Looking a into Navigator ->Tabbed Browsing I see two options regarding the CTRL key: Open new Tab at 1. Middle click or CTRL+click on a link on a webpage 2. CTRL+Enter in Location Bar This leaves several possible options out: middle click or CTRL+Enter in the history list could also open a new tab. I think the following options would be better: Open new tab for opening a URL 1. if CTRL is held down 2. if MMB is pressed That would appeal better to me ;-)

It looks like the whole thing is because the history list is either unable to distinguish a CTRL+Enter / Enter or middle click / left click; or there is just the same action implemented for all these events. If this is correct, this bug report would not only be related, but be a duplicate of bug 164008. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 164008 ***
