Empty Trash from the context menu opened by right menu click in the left pane Actual Results: The message in the lower pane shouldn't be displayed anymore since it was deleted. Expected Results: The lower pane should have been cleared and no message/text should be displayed. Mozilla 1.3b milestone, Modern theme, win2k.

I've checked also classic theme, and the outcome is the same.

Sorry for the spam again, but I've also checked the linux build (2003021008) and it has the same behaviour. Platform->All?

This is probably similar to the IMAP Compact problem - no event generated. (We need an event in case the trash is emptied from another window.)

I just downloaded and installed Mozilla 1.3 on a Mandrake Linux 9 system. I noticed that the trash folder didn't empty, but deleting specific messages from the trash folder did in fact make them go away. I found this bug and tried another test. Attempted to empty trash folder when NOT viewing the folder. That didn't work either. And in my original situation I had a folder with two messages in it (so only one was in the view pane). Neither was emptied.

Today I'm not seeing the behavior I saw yesterday. Sigh. Sorry for the redundant comment.

I see this with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.8a) Gecko/20040423 - IMAP acct. Deleted files -> Trash, empty trash clears the display, compact, go to a different folder and go back to Trash then they all redisplay (never compacted/expunged).

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8a) Gecko/20040429 Also T/Bird version 7.0 (20040428) POP3 mail. Another problem that seems to be part of the same bug is: 1. Select a message in Trash. 2. Empty Trash. 3. Switch to another folder. 4. Switch back to Trash after more messages have been sent to Trash. 5. One of the new messages is selected, and displayed in the Preview Pane. This only happens when Remember The Last Selected Message is checked. It seems that the pointer to the currently selected message is not being unset/set to null on Empty Trash (maybe doing this would clear the current message (when Empty Trash is selected) in the Preview Pane as well?).

This is also seen in TB -- bug 252886.
