In consequence of bug 192486
OS/2 build 2003030409
One of my pop3 servers sometimes becomes unreachable that causes periodical mail
check to produce an alert window. That just happened when Mozilla was minimized.
As a result, I cannot access the Alert window and close it, and it prevents
MailNews from any actions. So I was forced to kill Mozilla task.

I have heard people mention this, but this is not how OS/2 behaves, so I am why
it is happening.
I am not making the parent of those message boxes the browser window, just the
owner. The message box should still show on the desktop.

Please try this.
in your URL bar, type www.fdsajflkdslfdsflds.com (it doesn't matter)
press enter, then immediately minimize the window. Do you get the alert?
I've tried a procedure of comment 2.
It's very easy to create a situation that neither borwser nor alert window
appear on screen (but both exists in window list).
Double clicking "Alert" on window list doesn't let alert window comes up.
However, double clicking "Alert" seems to give a focus to the hidden alert
window.
So I hit enter key then browser comes up.

The problem seems to be that Alert window just locates outside the screen.
As I understand, coordinates of Alert window are somehow derived from
coordinates of the parent window. And when the parent is minimized, the Alert
window coordinates get skewed.
Summary: Unable to access Alert window that appeared while Mozilla was minimazed → Unable to access Alert window that appeared while Mozilla was minimized

This shouldn't be possible. Mozilla won't display windows off screen.

can someone please give an exact scenario to reproduce
this?

I'm experiencing bug 191391 at the moment, i.e. MailNews continuosly produces
alert "The PASS command did not succeed. Mail server <servername> responded:
Could not
connect to server".
The current bug is easily reproduciable now. It's enough just minimize MailNews
window, so that the alert appears in minimized state.
I confirm that although it's not possible to call the alert window to visible
area of screen, I can close it simply by hitting Enter while it's active
(somewhere outside the screen).

Are you actually minimizing or are you hiding the window?
Are you minimizing to the desktop or minimizing to the viewer?
Is mailnews the only window you have open?

What's the difference between minimizing and hiding?
I minimize to the viewer.
MainNews isn't the only window, there is also a navigator one.
I minimized all Mozilla's windows. And when alert had appeared, I could call
only navigator window to desktop but not MailNews one.

I got this once or twice but then it started working again. I've no idea what
the magic is to make it happen.

I've just got a bug while MailNews window was minimized but not Navigator one.
The bug seems not depend on state of navigator window (if one is open).

OS/2 build 2004020908
I've just got another hit of this bug. This time with Confirm dialog for
checking for update.
To reproduce:
1. Set up monitoring for updates for some frequently changing page. Good example
is http://www7.software.ibm.com/2bcprod.nsf/ddpakbydate?OpenView which is not
actually changing much but giving false alerts (due to its dynamical nature I
guess).
2. Minimize Mozilla Navigator window
3. Wait for checking routine to rise up a confirmation dialog.
4. While you can see the dialog under name "Confirm" in the Task List, you
cannot get access to it. Notice that you cannot get access to Navigator window
as well since the hidden dialog is modal.
5. Blind hitting Enter while the dialog is active (jump to it from Task List)
closes the dialog and brings up the Navigator window.

When I get the confirm dialog, even though Mozilla is minimized, the confirm
dialog comes up on the desktop.
The confirm dialog is NOT minimized, as you are seeing.
what version of OS/2 are you using?
Do you minimize to desktop, window viewer, or hide your windows?
Do you have any enhancers running?

Michael, I minimize to the viewer, no enhancers running, the system is ACP +
XR_C004.
See comment #9 as well.

I didn't pay any attention to this bug before but I can reproduce it with a fresh profile and OS/2 SeaMonkey 1.8 20051212 (I am on eCS 1.1 FP5 and also minimize to viewer).
To reproduce:
- Go to any secure page, like https://ibank.barclays.co.uk/
- In the URL bar type in any non-secure page that is loading
somewhat slowly, http://www.mozilla.org does it here
- press Enter and immediately minimize the browser window
- After a seconds or two I can see a window "Security Warning"
in the Window list but no window appears on the desktop.
- When I select that window and press space I can see the system
menu at the lower left corner of my desktop.
- Selecting "Move" from that menu I can move _something_ but
nothing appears on screen, neither during nor after the move.
The strange thing is that in my normal profile the security warning always appears on screen. Same thing happens on the test profile after I resized the alert window once. Do we save the position and/or size of this window anywhere?
