Opening or composing a few mails rapidly creates many different windows in the OS.
I would like to have an option to be able to have only one general window. When
composing a new mail or opening another one, Mail would create a new window
internally to the main window. Navigation between those new windows can be made
through tabs like in Navigator or through an internal taskbar like in Eudora.

I've played around with adding tab support to mailnews itself a bit in the past.
I'll take another run at it at some point in the future...

Dan, have you had a chance to look at this any more? Do you have any WIP code
that you could post as a launching point for other contributors? It would be
great if this could make Thunderbird 1.0...

There's now a related bug for Thunderbird, on Bug 297379 . They even have patches. Maybe it can be adapted to Seamonkey?

Not only patches, but test builds. Maybe at least in a test trunk build?

I think an interface needs to be settled on before it is ported to Seamonkey. That's why I added the dependent bug.
