Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030312 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030312 Inside IMAP mailbox (not Inbox), when using threaded message display, selecting new message displays old message content. This occurs after deleting multiple messages from a thread, exiting the folder, allowing new messages from same thread to arrive, then reentering folder. Select first message from thread, old contents will be displayed from "previous" first message. Exiting, restarting Mozilla, compacting the folder to purge the local store, and reentering fixes the problem. Note - the headers are displayed correctly in the preview pane for the current, not previous message. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. Display large thread from mailing list in imap box 2. Delete old messages 3. Switch to different folder 4. Wait for new messages to arrive with same thread 5. Select new message from same thread. Contents from first message read in steps 1 and 2 will be displayed for new messages. 6. Exit Mozilla. 7. Start Mozilla Mail. 8. Without entering folder, compact the folder (right click) 9. Messages are now correct. Actual Results: 1. Message correctly displayed. 2. Message moved to trash. 5. Contents from first message displayed, but with the current message's headers displayed in preview pane - using different client shows that content is correct on IMAP server. Selecting a different message and coming back to the message does not fix. Compacting the folder while viewing message does not fix. Expected Results: At step 5, I expected to see the correct message content. IMAP server is uw-IMAP on Red Hat 8.0
do you have the folder configured for offline use? Does your imap server roll uid validity frequently? If it does, you'll see the client re-downloading headers for a folder every time you run Mozilla.
Offline folders are not enabled on either machine as they are desktop users connected via a persistent connection. I'm uncertain as to whether uw-imap is configured to roll UID validity. I'm using the default Red Hat 8.0 package, and have not changed options. Reviewing the docs (and a brief glance at the source), I don't see anything glaringly obvious that would suggest that it is.
heh heh, it's not configured to roll uid validity :-) it's a bug in the UW server, which I believe has since been fixed. See http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=145638#c25
I will build Red Hat's imap-2002b-5 package from RawHide and retest.
this has been fixed on the client-side as well - dup of bug 145638 - fix is in 1.5 *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 145638 ***
