Same problem in the traditional Chinese, especially in some fields of a replying
form. TC won't be displayed when typing, but will be sent to the form. Very
annoying.

The four previous bugs all seem to be duplicates of this older one, namely that
when typing or copying/pasting Chinese characters into text fields, certain
characters are not displayed.

To (hopefully) better reflect the issues and prevent more duplicates, I am
changing the summary on this bug from "SimpChinese string can not be completed
displayed when copy/paste to some other places" to "some typed or copy/pasted
Chinese characters not displayed in text or search fields."
Summary: SimpChinese string can not be completed displayed when copy/paste to some other places → some typed or copy/pasted Chinese characters not displayed in text or search fields
Screenshot showing a selection of cropped/wrong display chinese text problems on the Mac:

The attached shows a Google Maps (China) search for ι¦™ζΈ―η‰Ήεˆ«θ‘Œζ”ΏεŒΊ. As you can see, the text appears in full on the Firefox search bar, but the last character is missing from the display of the Google search. In addition, you will see that the "Search" button and the tooltip is cropped.

The problem appears to be present only with variable width fonts - and Firefox does not handle them correctly on Mac OS X.

The problem re: cropped/wrong display of text appears to be fixed in the latest builds.

Attached is a comparison of the Chinese Government website (www.gov.cn), as displayed by (from left to right):

* Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.3 (current release),
* Safari 2.0.4 (Mac OS X Intel Tiger release) and
* Mozilla Firefox 3.0a5pre 20070529 nightly

Compare the following:
1. Display of the Tab bar is incorrect on Firefox 2.0.0.3 (I am using a the Pinstripe theme but this is true of the default theme too) - text 'leaks' into the surrounding space -- this does not happen on Safari nor the pre3.0 Alpha
2. Drop-down dialogue boxes and nearby button does not allow enough space for display of multi-byte characters on Firefox 2.0.0.3 (compare with Safari and newest Firefox - it appears to be fixed on the two.)

The problem which I highlighted in the previous screenshot (selection of cropped/wrong display chinese text problem), where parts of the text gets cut off, appears to be fixed in the latest nightly – possibly because of the revised Aqua-style controls.

Thus the problem I described appears to be solved in the 3.0 pre-alpha builds.

Can someone confirm whether the earlier problems w/ text mysteriously disappearing is fixed? If so then I think we are in a good position to close this bug? (If not, then this bug remains very much open!)
