Wrong browser.

Was able to re-create the problem when I tried the mentioned steps after several
hour of Firebird usage using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; WinNT4.0; en-US; rv:1.4b)
Gecko/20030427 Mozilla Firebird/0.6.
But at least on my box Firebird cleared the cache and created a "cache.Trash"
directory, but the [Clear]-Button in the Privacy Options kept enabled. After
clicking several times on the [Clear]-Button Firebird finally crashed.
Did some further testing. On my box the [Clear]-Button stays only enabled, if I
have an windows explorer accessing the cache folder of Firebird teh same time I
try to clear the cache. In this case the cache folder gets deleted, but a new
one called "Cache.Trash" gets created. This folder contains several subfolders
named "Trash", "Trash-1", "trash-2" and so on corresponding to the number of
clicks I made on the [Clear]button.
If I then finally leave the Options-Dialog either by [Ok] or [Cancel] and try to
continue with browsing Firebird crashed with an Access Violation in Phoenix.exe.
Next I tried with Mozilla Browser and here the crash occurs also (see TalkBack
ID TB19574935K) but I used a rather old building of Mozilla (Mozilla/5.0
(Windows; U; WinNT4.0; en-US; rv:1.4a) Gecko/20030312).
In any case: the cache was deleted always! Only the [Clear] button kept enabled
if the cache folder was accessed by windows explorer (and of curse later on
Firebird/Mozilla Browser crashed).
This happened also using a new profile for Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; WinNT4.0;
en-US; rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030427 Mozilla Firebird/0.6!
=> at least the problem for the crash seems not to be caused by
Firebird-specific coding!

This bug occurs randomly, but several times a day without possybility to
provocate it. Sometimes the cache is cleared, sometimes one item stays in the
cache folder.
Twice Firebird crashed triing to use the "clear all" button. The same occured
with the 20030516 0.6 final buid.

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.4a)
Gecko/20030521 Mozilla Firebird/0.6
Crash clearing the cache appeared again without to open the cache folder or
anything other in the profile. The Cache trash folder apppeared with the
several items in it, each for every click.
Talkback worked. I never could provocate it with a Mozilla 1.4b release on the
same WinXP.
An enlarged session caching many files seems to provocate the crash. In 4 of
three crashes the Sun Java JRE 1.4.1_02 had been loaded having visited a site
with applets. I have manually installed the six plugin files.
Via mail from carbon:
Hi Erik
It did not crash the browser after clearing
the cache. The problem is evident in the
latest release of Firebird (v0.6).

I think too, crashes are a different bug. I found the problem to delete the
cache in every build, it reappeared in 20030523. Being unable to cancel the
cache, I openened the remaining files in the profiles cache directory and
found the html-code of one site I opened (http://fileforum.betanews.com. So
the cache is not deleted completely in any case. I dont know why even this
site stay in the cache, its a site with complexe code and active X elements in
it.

Can this still be replicated? On Firebird I can always clear cache and the
button disables first time regardless of whether I'm in the Cache directory or not.

I tried it with the latest 07-12 nighly. If the cache is cancelled after a
large session, about 7 files stay in the cache. There are 3 folders in the
profile called "cache", cache(2) and "cache trash". Opening some of the files
in "cache" by notepad, the conten is the .html code of the last visited
sites. So the cache is not clered totally. The problem occurs only in long
sessions. I failed to provocate crashes, but thre was some instability (broken
windows on the screen) opening files of the profile while firebird was opened.
Yes, the bug is still there.

I can confirm that this is still an issue (the Clear button staying enabled) in
Firefox 0.8, Windows.
