The emoticon insertion tool that is so handy when composing HTML messages is
absent from the plain text composer. I can never remember the character
combinations for more than a few of the emoticons and hence would find that tool
to be just as handy when composing text messages.
It has been pointed out to me in the forums that the absence of the HTML
composer's toolbar makes finding a home for this tool in the text composer a
little bit of a problem. I would like to see it in the context menu, but an
alternative would be the Edit menu.

Of course I didn't find bug 140799 when I did a search before filing this bug.
140799 is a bug about emoticons that doesn't use the word "emoticon" anywhere,
so how the heck was anyone supposed to find it ?
I suggest someone with the right permissions add the word "emoticon" to the
summary for 140799 so that others have at least an outside chance of finding
that bug.
