User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030610 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030610 All my e-mail prints in very large fonts, about 20points. Adjusting the page setup for the printer works only for the one session. Have to turn off shrink to fit page width and enter a numeric setting. 70% works well. Re-checking "fit to page width," even with 70% in box results in the large font printing. I am printing with a Samsung ML-1650 that uses HP PCL6 emulation. My recollection is that moz 1.2 was working OK. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Highlight an e-mail. 2. E-mail is displayed in the pane below the inbox e-mail list (not separate window) 3. Click on Print radio button in the menu bar. Actual Results: E-mail prints with large fonts. Header, top and bottom info (date page url), and body all print in same large font. Happens every time. Netscape.mozilla.general (secure) newsgroup confirms to as happening to others. I sent as Ernest1 and Brian responded (that's the confirmation). snews://secnews.netscape.com:563/bc5cru$joo14@ripley.netscape.com Expected Results: Print as in Moz 1.2 meaning, in a 12 point font. Wish list: be able to chose printing font and font size and make those default (permanant/stable)
I am experiencing the same problem with Mozilla 5.0, verion 1.4, Gecko/20030624, using an HP1200 laser printer in postscript mode. I did not have this problem with earlier versions of Mozilla mail, including 1.3.1.
Me too. Windows 98 and Netscape 7.1.
Same problem for me (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030624). Moreover, the print preview does not work for Mail. Nothing happens when clicking 'preview'.
In addition to my previous comment: The print preview is working for mails if 'print preview' is chosen from the context menu you get with a right mouse click on the mail. I tdoes not work if chosen from the mail toolbar or from the 'file' menu.

Sorry for adding noise by reporting this bug (209492) as a new bug (218809). I didn't find it on http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/query.cgi when I used "print font" or "print font size" as search words (while I had chosen "MailNews" in the "Product" field). I also tried Thunderbird 0.1 some time ago and it has the same problem.

Do I need to make sure I am printing an HTML message or any plain text message will do? As a test I printed a message in 4.x then compared it to a printed message in the 1.7a trunk. For me they look just about identical. the moz one appears to be slightly larger but I have to look real close to tell. Are folks configuring mail to use a large font size for display or anything like that? Just trying to get the conditions to reproduce this so I can figure it out.

ok, I went to the fonts prefs panel, changed my mono space font size to 20 pixels. As expected, the message pane now uses a larger font. If I now print that same message, it gets printed out with the large font. In short, printing a document uses the same font size as what you have configured the message pane to use. Do we think that's wrong?
I am configured just as Moz defaults. Read/print e-mail in plain text. Also have a similar problem printing some aricles off of web pages (include MS). Text on the right disappears/will not wrap in print but shows on screen. Workaround for these few webpages has been to print landscape and reduce font size. Problem is not as significant in Moz 1.5 final release, put still exists for me.
Summary: All email prints in very large fonts, file|page setup| does not retain adjusted settings after end of session. → All email prints in very large fonts
