If you open the calendar AFTER the alarm time, it still will not notify unless you go to add another alarm. Then it will notify. I try to get around this problem by telling Mozilla Browser to always launch the Calendar first, but this is a band-aid for now. I would rate this problem pretty high if we want normal users to start using this calendar over others. Also, I think this is important for basic operation of a calendar app. An alarm should notify via getting a user's attention in some way, regardless of what app they are working in or whether they have covered-up the calendar app window.
