The sidebar tabs were all empty and non-could be added after I upgraded from 1.3
to 1.4. The Outer frame was present, there were just no tabs.
System is recently installed from RedHat 9.0 (1.2.1) twice upgraded using your
RedHat8 RPMs. This problem only arose in the 1.3 to 1.4 upgrade.
Opening new windows and showing/hiding the sidebar did nothing.
Customizing the sidebar came up empty as well.
(My normal entry path is through Mozilla Mail first.)
Completely closing and restarting Mozilla brought the sidebar tabs back.
The only other thing that happened was that on the first launch after the
upgrade, opening a new window displayed one of the RedHat local pages and not
the default (Mozilla.org/.../start) home page.
I poked about and found the following bugs. All of which seem old. Perhaps it
may be a related/regression?
local (file://) sidebar doesn't load (checkloaduri failure)

Win98
I've come to rely on the bookmarks and search sidebar tabs heavily. To the
point of hiding my personal toolbar and the disappearence caused a brief start.
Hopefully, this will help anyone else who stumbles on this.
Thanks, David

always reproducable for me, no matter of which version were talking about, that
is 1.3 and later.
doesn't matter if I install a release or a nightly, the sidebar is always blank
anyways.
Noticing also that the "Tabs" meny on the sidebar is empty, although there are
tabs in the sidebar, both on first start and later ones.

ditto going from 1.4 to 1.5a on Windows 2000.
On first start sidebar had no panels but in all other respects seemed OK. Just
restarted Mozilla and the panels came back no problem.
This sounds like bug 195213, any change with newer builds?
I seem to recall having this problem myself.
