Mozilla 1.4.1 needs a new homepage and a patch to point to the new homepage.
Attached file the v1.0 homepage updated to v1.4 (obsolete) (deleted) —
I've made a few changes that were nessessary to quickly convert the 1.0 homepage to 1.4[.1]. - I changed the "mozilla 1.0" png to read "mozilla". - The parties link has been removed - Instances where I found "1.0" have been changed to read "1.4" - The way the columns in the center were done needed to be changed when the parties link was removed. This needs to be tested in IE 5, opera, safari etc. - Some changes to the text on support.html have been made. They need to be checked to see if they're alright. - compressed some of the png's. - The push from the 1.0 page to the proper plugins and themes pages needs to be copied over. - Languages in the addons.html need to be fixed. The javascript should be working, it's just someone needs to go through the list of languages and change them from 1.0 to 1.4. - everything else (Faq, reviewers guide, etc) should be pointing to the 1.0 pages. - Someone needs to make a patch to make the homepage point to a 1.4 directory.

comments: support.html title should be updated moztips link should go to http://www.moztips.com/ "Holger Metzger’s Netscape 6/7 Tips" seems defunct Newzilla - last updated 2+ years ago. most of the info is available elsewhere are there some newer pages out there to link to? mozillazine? guide.html is mostly ok from 1.0 as the issues mentioned there are still relevant and haven't changed much, but the page itself is full of "1.0". same for FAQ. not a huge issue. FAQ -- might want to update the part about the "target audience" (the first one) addons.html spellchecker has landed on the trunk and enabled, but just not packaged (yet). has anyone other than Neil worked on this? "leaf@mozilla.org is the central point of contact for this now"
Gerv emailed several people about possibly taking this task for him and working on it, but Neil I believe is the only one who has actually produced any code. Since Neil indicated via email he was leaving on a vacation, assigning bug to myself. I will start working on the various items to do still pending from comment 1 and comment 3. Also correcting QA contact to component default.

Attached file Updates v 1.1 (obsolete) (deleted) —
Status: "The push from the 1.0 page to the proper plugins and themes pages needs to be copied over." Plugins page fixed. I don't see why we can't just link to the same themes page that the 1.0 start page links to, http://www.mozilla.org/themes/download/ Or am I not understanding the issue? "Languages in the addons.html need to be fixed. The javascript should be working, it's just someone needs to go through the list of languages and change them from 1.0 to 1.4." Fixed. Draft 1.4.1 section in this page commented out for now. "everything else (Faq, reviewers guide, etc) should be pointing to the 1.0 pages." See below for a comment regarding the FAQ. "Someone needs to make a patch to make the homepage point to a 1.4 directory." Bug 214855 opened to get this need documented. "support.html title should be updated" Fixed. "moztips link should go to http://www.moztips.com/" Fixed. "'Holger Metzger’s Netscape 6/7 Tips' seems defunct" Link deleted. "Newzilla - last updated 2+ years ago. most of the info is available elsewhere are there some newer pages out there to link to? mozillazine?" Newzilla link deleted. No replacement link added yet. Need to identify an appropriate link. "guide.html is mostly ok from 1.0 as the issues mentioned there are still relevant and haven't changed much, but the page itself is full of "1.0". same for FAQ. not a huge issue." See next item. "FAQ -- might want to update the part about the "target audience" (the first one)" If we do that, perhaps we should just rewrite the whole FAQ to remove the 1.0 references. "addons.html spellchecker has landed on the trunk and enabled, but just not packaged (yet)" My impression after reading bug 56301 is that there is no intention of landing this on the 1.4 branch. If that is so, is it appropriate to: - continue to link to the mozdev project? - note that this will be in the 1.5 release? (and then in turn, note that 1.5 is not the "stable branch"?) - mention this add-on at all?

> If we do that, perhaps we should just rewrite the whole FAQ to remove the 1.0 > references. Right. The issue is whether the changes are important enough to make a copy and change. Making the changes seems reasonable to me, but I'm not doing the work... you're call. > My impression after reading bug 56301 is that there is no intention of landing > this on the 1.4 branch. If that is so, is it appropriate to: The link still needs to be there since it doesn't look like it will make it into 1.4.x. I would simply update the wording -- "one is under development at MozDev" is not correct. Perhaps something like: Future releases of Mozilla will ship with a spelling checker by default, but an addon for 1.4 is available at MozDev.
===== > If we do that, perhaps we should just rewrite the whole FAQ to remove the 1.0 > references. Right. The issue is whether the changes are important enough to make a copy and change. Making the changes seems reasonable to me, but I'm not doing the work... you're call. ===== I'm going forth now with touching up the FAQs, partly for that section. Also primarily because several of the FAQs are just flat wrong because things changed between 1.0 and 1.4 (e.g. where the popup blocker preferences are in the UI), so we might as well aim high and try to create a better document for the user. And we may as well lose all the "1.0" references.
Attached file Updates v 1.2 (obsolete) (deleted) —
Same as v1.1 except re-edited FAQs added in. Major sections changed and/or corrected include: 1.1. For whom is Mozilla 1.4 intended? 2.1. Can I install just the browser, not the rest? 2.4. I’ve heard about ‘popup blocking’. How do I do this? 3.9. Does Mozilla come with a spellchecker? Deleted: Why can’t I access secure (https://) websites? Formerly in section 10/Troubleshooting. Removed because the answer was "Personal Security Manager (PSM) is not installed", and the installer does not allow the option to not install PSM anymore. Also went through and removed a few dead links, repointed other dead links to their new URLs (mostly developer.netscape.com -> devedge.netscape.com). I believe all references to Mozilla 1.0 are also out now and I changed 1.0 specific links (e.g. links to 1.0 release notes) to correct 1.4 URLs.

Forgot to update the FAQ link on the new home page and make the Spellchecker text changes to addon.html. Sorry for the spam. I think all the page content issues cited in this bug to date are now fixed.

> and the installer does not allow the option to not install PSM anymore. the linux installer still allows installation without PSM. RPM also distibutes PSM as a separate package: http://download.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/releases/mozilla1.4/contributed/Red_Hat_7x_RPMS/i386/ looks like it's linux-only.

"start" is misspelled "sttart" in the Mozilla 1.0 FAQ URL on the support page. FAQ question 2.9 (running .exe files). has this changed since 1.0? I seem to remember seeing a fixed bug about this, but I don't use windoze, so I have no idea what the effect was. it looks like there are a few leftover things in detect-problems.js that could go. > if ( is_ie ) { > if (is_win) { > if ( is_ie6 ) { if ( is_win && is_ie6 ) { and nuke the tests for ie4, ie5, etc. what is "16bit"? win3.1? you also never call detectErrors() this looks about ready for primetime. is there anything else to add? do you have a CVS account?
Attached file Update 1.24 (obsolete) (deleted) —
Fixes the start typo. Changed the link to point to the new 1.4 FAQ. I have no idea what the answer is regarding FAQ 2.9. >if ( is_win && is_ie6 ) { When I put this in, the fix stopped working. I have no idea why; I don't really know about IE and PNG. So I left the original series of IF statements as they were. >what is "16bit"? win3.1? Presumably, but I hadn't even examined the script before now. I think it's just straight from the 1.0 pages. >you also never call detectErrors() Commented this out. >this looks about ready for primetime. is there anything else to add? Unless the FAQ 2.9 question is critical, nothing that I am aware of. >do you have a CVS account? I do not. Neil, who started this work, has a request in for one for himself that is still pending (bug 214347). To be honest, I wouldn't know the first thing about using CVS. And as long as we are talking about things I don't know how to do, getting a patch done to change the 1.41 home page to these new pages (once we know what the URL will be) is another. The bug for that is bug 214855.
Attachment #129346 - Attachment is obsolete: true
> To be honest, I wouldn't know the first thing about using CVS. I'm a bit concerned Neil isn't going to be back before 1.4.1. You could use doctor (http://doctor.mozilla.org/)
I would be glad to, but I don't have a name/pw for that either. How would I get one?
> I would be glad to, but I don't have a name/pw for that either. How would I get > one? it's asking for a CVS username/password, so you have to have CVS write access (file a bug on CVS Account Request). Doctor checks stuff directly into the CVS repository.
I'll open a bug request for it, but is there really going to be a point when Neil's own request/bug has just sat unanswered for over a week? I'd almost rather someone who already has access just post the files, if you really think we're in danger of missing 1.4.1.
leaf: can you help us out here for granting CVS access so someone can check this in (or just check it in yourself)? CVS access to the Mozilla source tree requires following the procedure outlined here: http://www.mozilla.org/hacking/getting-cvs-write-access.html I don't know if getting access to the .mozilla.org tree requires the same procedure (particularly step 6)
> FAQ question 2.9 (running .exe files). has this changed since 1.0? I seem to > remember seeing a fixed bug about this, but I don't use windoze, so I have no > idea what the effect was. This was bug 91969, fixed 4/10/03. So, there is a way to do this. I can't tell how to do it from just looking through the bug report.
If I have this right, it looks like you just Launch the exe file from the download manager or the progress dialog (if you have the progress dialog set to stay open after the d/l is done). You then get a dialog box warning you why it might be dangerous to launch an EXE and do you really want to do that. Is that what we're talking about, that was created by the bugfix and thus changes the FAQ? If so, I'll just rewrite my first paragraph up there to be more literate for an FAQ, but I'd like someone to tell me if that's what we're talking about first. I'm one of those people that never launches an EXE from the browser, so I've paid attention to what Mozilla has done in the past or present with EXE files.
Attached file update 1.3 (obsolete) (deleted) —
I could not check the files in (either in wincvs or doctor). I suspect this is because I don't have cvs access to the start/ partition. The FAQ is usable, but needs some major rewrite (bug 187393).
Attachment #129415 - Attachment is obsolete: true
Just a couple of notes for the viewing audience: 1) I've been offline for 2 days, so I never did a CVS request. 2) I just started a new job (after 22 months without one, yay) and it's my time focus now. I won't be able to keep riding herd on this bug. Reassigning back to Neil, since he opened it and has the only active CVS request at the moment.

Well, I'm back from vacation. I'll see if I can't still get CVS access.
I downloaded the 1.3 version of the site that you guys worked on, but it no longer displays peoperly in mozilla 1.4. What got changes? The layout on every page is all over the place and now the files are in a \1.4\ sub directory. There are also NOWRAP files all over the place, what are they for?
oops. faq/ and images/ should be moved to 1.4/ (answer yes to replace all files), and guide/ should have been removed. NOWRAP is a file that tells the server not to add menu, banner, etc. I changed the stylesheet so that the Default and Pacific (previously Orange and Blue) skins have more variation. The stylesheets work for me on 1.5a. I removed some FAQ entries (you might note some missing entry #), removed the focus-answer-on-click js calls (the script had been removed long ago), and made minor FAQ updates. I haven't done anything since my last post, so feel free to beat the FAQ into shape.
Just added two troubleshooting entries (ZoneAlarm and yahoo opting out of password manager) to 1.0 FAQ: http://www.mozilla.org/webtools/bonsai/cvsview2.cgi?diff_mode=context&whitespace_mode=show&file=troubleshooting.html&root=/cvsroot&subdir=mozilla-org//html/start/1.0/faq&command=DIFF_FRAMESET&rev1=1.2&rev2=1.3 http://www.mozilla.org/webtools/bonsai/cvsview2.cgi?diff_mode=context&whitespace_mode=show&file=index.html&root=/cvsroot&subdir=mozilla-org//html/start/1.0/faq&command=DIFF_FRAMESET&rev1=1.6&rev2=1.7 I have this on my to-do this, but I'm too lazy to verify if this applies to 1.0 (or 1.4 even): Q: Mail/News keeps asking for my password. How do I make Mail/News remember my log-in? A: You might have mistakenly set Mail/News not to remember your password. Open the Tools menu, Password Manager, and select Manage Passwords. In the Site Never Saved tab, find and remove the entry for your mail account.
sorry for the spam. We also need an entry on setting up multiple SMTP servers. btw, anyone updating the start/ homepage?
I'm working on it. I can't get the v1.3 to display properly at all on moz1.4 so I've gone with the 1.24 version and I've fixed up the languages section in the addons and I've touched up the javascript so it's more organized (I removed all of the crap) I'm just waiting to get this fax in so that I can get CVS access. I still have to go through the 1.3 version up there and figure out what was changed (besides the layout), but it's not that easy because when I load it in the web browser half of the text is off the screen. One question, are we using the 1.0 faq or are we making a new one? That change that you just posted is applied to the 1.0 faq.
Actually, the layout change only apply to 1.4/index.html and the .css files. You could have used v1.3 FAQ directly. We are making a new FAQ. The update to 1.0 FAQ applies to 1.4 FAQ as well. I checked with Mozilla 1.0 and 1.4. We don't need the entry "Mail/News keeps asking for my password. How do I make Mail/News remember my log-in?"
so what you're saying is that I should point the faq link on the 1.4 page to the 1.0 faq instead of having a new /faq/ directory?
Actually, what i meant is this: In my start/1.4/ .zip, the layout change only applies to the .css and 1.4/index.html . If you simply move the faq/ content to 1.24 zip folder, they should display fine. And we are writing a new FAQ, but the 1.0 FAQ should still be updated. I was just informing you the two entries I added to the 1.0 FAQ should also be added to our new FAQ. so to avoid bugspam, send me an e-mail if anything wasn't clear.
okay, the pages should be appearing in the next little while. I'm just learning CVS so the nowrap and the png's might not be uploaded correctly, I have to wait and see. I haven't uploaded the faq yet because I still need to incorporate some of Daniels changes.
Everything has been uploaded (Including the faq). When it appears on the server can people hit it hard and test it in the different browsers? http://www.mozilla.org/start/1.4/
We need a new welcome message. This was what I suggested to Neil: This is Mozilla, an open source Internet client suite designed for speed, security, and portability. This portal provides you resources to help you get the most out of Mozilla. Mozilla is your complete Internet solution. Our innovative browser features such as Tabbed Browsing, integrated search Sidebar, and the new Popup Manager allows you to surf the Web more efficiently. The mail client brings security and privacy to a new level, with Outlook-worm immunity, a new spam mail control, improved filter, and the ability to block script, image, and plug-ins in messages. Mozilla is very customizable. With Composer and many extensions, Mozilla can meet your everyday Internet needs. Mozilla 1.4 is available on most OS and in many languages. No matter who you are, we hope you enjoy this software. And if you like it, spread the words! Get Mozilla <http://www.slater.ch/moz/getmoz.png> Neil commented that it has too much sales pitch. We need a better intro. Any idea?
Depends on: 187393
It is too much of a sales pitch. Remember, everyone viewing this page will already have a copy of Mozilla 1.4.1. The current intro is short and to the point; the only issue is that "the following resources" aren't following, they are over to the right. Is there any reason we changed the layout for the orange theme only? The open source link on the front page is also dead. And we could do with new reviewers notes for 1.4. And we should probably use our better knowledge to pick the most common addons rather than the 1.0 list. However, having said all that, very good job guys :-) This is excellent - exactly what I had in mind. Please file a separate bug, CCing me, on making this the default start page for the 1.4 branch. Gerv
"Is there any reason we changed the layout for the orange theme only?" I don't think there was a particular reason. It's just a small change to the css. As for the open source link, should that point to the 1.0 page or are we going to make a new one? There doesn't really seem to be a reason to make a second one. In the meantime, I'll point to the 1.0 version to fix the broken link.
troubleshooting.html partially updated: remove old 1.7 entry (port unblocking) simplify & reorder 10.1 and 10.2. add 10.3
The link to troubleshooting 10.6 on the /faq/index.html page is broken. In fact the whole list for troubleshooting is out of whack and 10.13 is MIA. I guess I'll spend the next few minutes and fix it.
> I don't think there was a particular reason. It's just a small change to the > css. Well, we either need to change it back, or change the text :-) Gerv
Depends on: 217320
faq/general.html updated: add entry on choosing the right version & downloading "patches". Update the hidden pref entry
Just a note that contrary to our guess/expectation, there is a spellchecker in the 1.4.1 candidate build that's out, so FAQ 3.9 should get rewritten.
Discussion on bookmark manager have come up quite frequently in the newsgroups. Finding a good bookmark manager that does synchronization, backup, update, etc. and supports Mozilla is not easy, so maybe the start page needs to list some useful non-add-on utilties. This probably is a controversial issue. Do we also list download manager, parental control utility, anti-virus program, etc.?

A few important changes: * I've added start/1.4/extra/using-junk-control.html , a junk mail tutorial (not covered in Help). * I've changed the start/index text to encourage more contributors * I've added Edit this Page and Feedback links to bottom of every pages, again to encourage contribution The changes should take effect in 2 hrs or so. The spellchecker issue is fixed. The question following the one mentioned earlier related to why Mozilla doesn't use Netscape's spellchecker, so I removed it as well. This required changing links and such around, so patches were applied to the contents and the 3.x page. I couldn't see anything else on this bug that needed work, but it's rather hard to tell what needs help now.

Wait, the header on the 1.4 orange style is still messed up. When at large resolutions (1600 wide or wider) and at small resolutions it breaks. And with the pacific style, when I first looked at it I thought it said L4. I know now that it's 1.4 but it seriously looked like it said L4 to me.
breakage at small res fixed. My monitor can support only up to 1280x1024 and it looks fine. Neil, can you provide a screenshot of the layout at higher res? As for the Pacific, I deleted the original files :-( So I have to redo the graphics...
high res breakage fixed... I think.
Nice edit button. How can I add a new page (german translation) to your Wiki?
I don't know why the edit button is there but just let me know where to link to and I'll add it.
The Edit this Page / Feedback links are to encourage people to contribute to the contents. The Edit this Page links to the Doctor tool to allow people to write patches and post to the feedback page. One more thing to add to this entry: http://www.mozilla.org/start/1.5/faq/profile.html#transport If, having copied the profile over, and mozilla will not start, saying "mozilla cannot use the profile "NAME" because it is in use", you need to delete the file .mozilla/NAME/XXXX.slt/lock (this is also probably a bug in profile manager of 1.6b - namely that it does not ignore stale lock files)
> (this is also probably a bug in profile manager of 1.6b - namely that it does > not ignore stale lock files) bug 151188, but that is a pretty rare bug and specific to *nix. normally, it will ignore stale lock files.
oh, but the fact that you saw that at all means you copied the profile while it was in use, which is a Bad Idea.
> If, having copied the profile over, and mozilla will not start, saying "mozilla > cannot use the profile "NAME" because it is in use", you need to delete the file that is http://www.mozilla.org/start/1.5/troubleshooting/#lock

The Mozilla Mail & Newsgroup FAQ (at http://www.mozilla.org/start/1.5/faq/mail-news.html#web-mail) does not state whether the Mail and News client can disable the loading of remote objects other than images, such as CSS files and whatnot in emails. The client also does not give the option to expressly disable such activity, nor does it make it explicit that such activity is disabled when the user chooses not load remote images. Perhaps I haven't looked well enough but I've been unable to find any information pertaining to this specific subject. A clarification would be very welcome.
The FAQ doesn't state that the loading of other content is disabled, because the loading of other content is not disabled - it's just images. Implementing a nothing-remote option is bug 28327 You can prevent remote content being loaded by using the "simple HTML" or "text" views. Maybe that should go in the FAQ?
In response to Additional Comment #78 by Michael Lefevre > The FAQ doesn't state that the loading of other content is disabled, > because the loading of other content is not disabled - it's just images. Hi! The sentence above is too funny: the reason for my saying that the FAQ doesn't state whether remote-object loading (ROL) can be disabled is precisely so that this important issue strongly related to privacy and spam may be addressed in the FAQ. I wanted to know whether loading of other remote objects can be disabled (or is disabled by currently available options), but the FAQ, and all other online docs that I could find, did not provide answer to my query. Hence my statement. Now your answer would apply quite nicely my next sentence ('The client also does not give the option to expressly disable such activity, nor does it make it explicit that such activity is disabled when the user chooses not load remote images.') after substituting 'FAQ' for 'client'. Someone reading my sentence above might assume that remote-object loading is disabled when selecting 'Do not load remote images in Mail and Newsgroup messages'. > Implementing a nothing-remote option is bug 28327 I've read the whole thread (phew!). And I found out after spending way too much time on this that although: > You can prevent remote content being loaded by using the "simple HTML" or > "text" views. ... 'Simple HTML' doesn't display images included in the message itself, which isn't quite optimal (No word on whether other included objects are displayed or not. Presumably they aren't.) This setting is just too obscure. When a user first sees it, what would he think it means? It could mean any number of things. What's more, searching for 'simple HTML' in Mozilla Help yields nothing. Searching for 'view' yields a number of entries, none of them related to simple HTML. Searching for 'message body as' turns up a gaping black hole. So the user has no idea what 'Simple HTML' does. Somebody suggested 'Sanitized HTML'. Maybe that's a better fit (I can't tell, I still don't know what 'Simple HTML' does). Reading that infamous Bug @*#@&, er I meant Bug 28327 (my shift key was on), I was alerted to yet another potential ROL problem: plugins in email. And mozmail is set to load them by default (I just checked on a virgin account). And it is set to load remote images by default too. And it set to view messages as 'Original HTML' by default too. And disabling ROL is obscure and undocumented. And it's been 4 years since Bug 28327 was first filed. I had thought that Mozilla developers took privacy and spam seriously. Well it appears I was wrong. I do urge Mozilla developers to resolve this matter rapidly. A single, logically placed, well visible setting to disable all ROL, together with a button in the message-viewing pane to toggle ROL on, will provide a more than adequate solution for the vast majority of users. Safe, privacy-protecting defaults are also necessary. > Maybe that should go in the FAQ? Maybe? Maybe??!? Michael, I do urge you to consider a career in comedy :)

I've set up Mozilla to use Eudora as my mail reader and in OS X.3.x you do need to go into Apple's Mail Application to change the default mail application, so I would guess that Mail Preferences>General and then choose Mozilla would do the job also (assuming you use Mozilla mail). The discussion in 7.9. How do I transport my profile to a different machine? located at http://www.mozilla.org/start/1.5/faq/profile.html#transport seems to be incorrect for Mozilla 1.7b on PCs running XP. In attempting 5. Enter a profile name. 6. Choose the Choose Folder button and navigate to the target profile location (BASE+NAME, excluding SALT). 7. Choose Finish. I found, after several aborted attempts AT STEP 6 resulted in the creation of a new NAME and SALT folders under BASE+NAME, that navigating to the BASE directory - not BASE+NAME, in which resided NAME and NAME+SALT correctly resulted in the profile NAME being created referencing the desired BASE+NAME+SALT. I also found that editing the existing SALT\pref.js first went faster. George.Barnes@louisville.edu

Nice would be an entry describing how to rename a mozilla profile.
the faq for 1.7.x is documented as 1.5. this faq does not address how to copy over from one computer to another just the master password, password repository and saved-forms repositories. i copied the following files over: 1234567.s, 1234569.w to the new installation of 1.7.3 on win xp pro sp2 from win98 but the browser does not use the stored passwords. running the password manager shows no stored passwords. i am using a non-default location for the profile storage. how does one copy over the master password and the stored passwords and saved forms? also, there is no registry.day file that can be found in either the mozilla program area or the profile directory! rich painter painter@ieee.org
I have no idea what all that stuff is above my message... I just wanted to give feedback on the Mozilla Suite FAQ. 1) How is the browser in Mozilla Suite different from Firefox? 2) How is the mail program in Mozilla Suite different from Thunderbird? 3) Will downloading the suite delete my bookmarks in Firefox? 4) Can the Composer be downloaded by itself? 5) What is Mozilla Suite the equivalent of? Windows? Or just a fancy browser? 6) Is Cascades a Composer-for-CSS? Can I use it to edit my website at smugmug.com? Thanks! courtenaybird@gmail.com
I got here by following the Feedback link on the page "Mozilla Profiles and Backup FAQ.html", so I infer this is the place for questions arising from that page. Apologies in advance if that isn't so (but if that applies, please fix the link). 1) I'm moving my Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird installations from one computer to another. I ran the new copy of each program to create a profile directory and set the Master Password to the same thing it was on the old machine, then exited Mozilla, copied the entire contents of the profile directories, and edited each prefs.js to correct all the file paths in it. However, the new installation has "forgotten" all the web-site passwords I had on the old machine, even though I copied the file where they're stored according to your page. What is the problem and how can I fix it? (If you need specifics, let's take this to private e-mail.) 2) Your page says that cookies reside only in "cookies.txt", but my old profile also has files "cookies-1.txt" through "cookies-6.txt", plus "cookperm.txt" (which I guess to be the list of sites I allow to set cookies). If all of these need to be copied then you might want to mention that. 3) Pardon me if this is a stupid (or misplaced) question, but am I right in thinking that I have to keep all the messages in my Junk folder in order for the junk filter mechanism to continue to recognize similar new messages as junk?
You say: "Open the Edit menu and choose Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings. Choose Outgoing Server (SMTP). Click Advanced. Click Add to add new SMTP servers." What version of Thunderbird does this refer to? The Edit menu on version 1.5 only has these options: Undo, Redo Cut, Copy, Paste,Delete Message, Select, Find, Properties. None of these items have a submenu with "Advanced" or "Add". Please help. wdr@insna.org
I'm reading : http://www.mozilla.org/start/1.5/faq/profile.html#backup this is under "7.9. How do I transport my profile to a different machine?" 6. Choose the Choose Folder button and navigate to the target profile location (BASE+NAME, excluding SALT). This is obviously wrong! when I navigate to the target profile location, like #6 says, it doesn't do it (initialize a profile) _IN_ that folder, it creates a new profile directory in that location instead! GRRR.
I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for asking this question, but when I clicked the link on the FAQ webpage, this is where it took me. I read how to backup and restore my profile data and have backed up my data. I was unable to find a solution to my problem though. I have thunderbird/seamonkey installed on 3 different systems and wish to merge them all onto my laptop system. Since I have mail on each system, how can I import/copy/restore the email messages from all three systems into the same profile on my laptop? Or maybe I can't?
