if you enter 'www.ob' in the location bar, you will be taken to the destination http://www.ob.com/ However, the location bar will still show 'www.ob', which can then be copied and pasted, bookmarked etc. 'www.ob' is misleading, and should be expanded to the query sent out and satisfied - in this case, 'http://www.ob.com', which is useful when copied/pasted/bookmarked.
This is a setting in preferences, no?
I have smart browsing->domain guessing (Automatically add "www." and ".com" to the location if a webpage isn't found) turned on. I am saying that successful domain guessing should be visibly shown in the location bar. While we're at it, that description needs rewriting - it should be 'if the given location's server name isn't a full valid domain name.') (I'd really like to see expansion do fully-qualified names and add the trailing dot. er, period. - a subtle way of indicating that it was autocomplered, by adding .net. or .com. or .org. or whatever.)
Is this a duplicate of Bug 209713?
