Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.5a) Gecko/20030728 Mozilla Firebird/0.6.1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.5a) Gecko/20030728 Mozilla Firebird/0.6.1 From within Apple Safari, clicking on a mailto: link does not open a blank email document as expected. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Make Thunderbird the default email client 2. Open Safari 3. Click a mailto: link Actual Results: The following error window text is displayed (only when Thunderbird is already open): Error launching browser window:TypeError: Components.classes['@mozilla.org/appshell/component/browser/instance;1'] has no properties When Thunderbird is NOT opened, the app launches and nothing happens - no error msg, etc.. Expected Results: A blank email document should open. To: should be prepopulated. Should also support prepopulation of email subject (if included in mailto: link). Also, when the error message displays, the "OK" button is not responsive. I must click several times before it closes, even though focus is on the window.
Still present in 0.3.
Revising Summary and raising Severity. Note also possible crash related to this problem in bug 228484.
Severity: normal → major
Summary: mailto: does not open blank email document from Apple Safari → Thunderbird doesn't handle mailto: URLs sent it from other Mac OS X applications
Confirming... I get this often on 0.5 release (OS 10.3) with clicking on mailto: links from Firefox. Thunderbird's inbox window is displayed but no compose box ever comes up. This seems like a major problem... I'm just hoping it's fixed before those I share the computer with discover the bug (I just switched it from Mozilla 1.6 to Firefox/Thunderbird last week).
When "mailto:" was clicked by firebird in the following combination, the window of "Mozilla" was displayed one after another. (It had happened that it was like having fitted into the trap of a browser crusher.) I cannot check whether this problem is still immediately reproduced by the newest version. The Japanese version bugzilla reports. http://bugzilla.mozilla.gr.jp/show_bug.cgi?id=3299 It may become a fatal problem if this problem is still reproduced. The reproduction step when reporting to the Japanese version bugzilla: Mozilla Thunderbird 0.2a (20030815) -- It is set as default mail. -- It quits, supposing it has started. Mozilla Firebird/0.6.1+(It is nightly build at the 2003-08-19 time about.) -- It is set as default browser. -- The link of "mailto:" is clicked.

The above-mentioned problem did not occur in the following newest versions. But the bug of this report is still reproduced. Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; ja-JP; rv:1.7b) Gecko/20040322 Firefox/0.8.0+ Mozilla Thunderbird 0.5+ (20040327)
