Clicking on the "sort by trash/non-trash" (there are no other obvious meanings
for this operation) column button, I expect that messages marked as trash will
appear first (or last) and non-trash messages will follow (or preceed). I'm not
seeing this behaviour though. Some non-trash messages are being sorted into the
trash marked messages.
This has been around for a while (several releases).
Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Take a folder with a lot of trash marked messages
2. Add in a few non-trash marked messages
3. Click the "sort by trash/non-trash" button
4. Observe the resulting order.
Actual Results:
Some non-trash messages are being sorted into the trash marked messages.
Expected Results:
Messages marked as trash will appear first (or last) and non-trash messages will
follow (or preceed).
I read my mail via IMAP. I have a filter that moves messages marked as spam, by
a mail server hosted spam filter, from my Inbox to a Spam folder. There are
nearly 5000 messages in the Spam folder (kept on hand for the spam filter's
database), and all are marked as trash.

I assume you mean "Sort by Junk Status". This sounds like a duplicate of
bug 181143; if you have sorted by Junk originally, then mark some additional
items as Junk (or Not Junk), then resort, the resorting simply reverses the
order of messages without resorting.

Yes, looks like a dupe.
