Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20030925
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20030925
It turns out that it is possible to select in the email account setup to place
an email into the SENT mail folder for the (single) account on this computer,
but after clicking OK, when you go back and look at the set up for the SENT
folder the "check dots" are blank again. I have tried going and setting attri
-s-h-r on the mail folders and then to the entire profile under c:\windows
application data to no avail. I have also added a new folder and tried to send
it to the new folder NEW SENT and it does not go there either. This has worked
in prior versions of Mozilla in win98 and I am not sure if I have a unique
problem here or if this is generic in Windows 98 operation. It works just fine
in three Windows 2000 machines I have.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Send an email and it does not get put into sent mail. This is because setting
the option to place a copy of sent email into the SENT floder does not work.
2.
3.

this is a local mail folder, not an imap one? Can you create an empty folder and
copy messages from your inbox into it?

Yes, I setup a NEWSENT folder, copied all of the files from SENT into it.
(There were some sent emails from earlier Mozilla editions.) I thought maybe
SENT was write protected so I did an attrib on it and was able to load the files
back into SENT just fine but still cannot ENABLE (Edit>Mail and Newsgroup
Account Settings>Copies and Folders) the system to put sent mail in the folder.
I have (multiple times) checked: Place a copy in and then also checked: SENT
FOLDER ON BURRUSS. Then when I click OK and immediately go back to look at the
settings in <Copies and Folders> the items are NOT checked any longer.

oh, I think the preferences window isn't working, not the sent mail process. If
you look at the js console, are there any exceptions/messages displayed?

I think this problem is the indirect result of Mozilla's super sophistocated
(manual, tedius, lengthy) mail migration procedure from Moz 1.4. I added a
second email account with a separate name, copied over all of the mail files,
there I was able to get the sent mail to go into the SENT folder just fine.
Then I deleted the first account, changed the name on the second account to
what the first account was and (in her great wisdom) Mozilla said she could not
do that as there was another account already by that name. This is undoubtedly
the result of poor clean up of mail account remnants by the mail account remove
utility.
I will completely delete Mozilla tomorrow including all register references
reload again and import it myself (only about a 2 hour job) and I am sure it
will be working. makes me wonder how much longer Mozilla will let Mozilla mail
go along with such an archiac mail migration and processing system which wastes
untold hours of both beginner users and folks who have to get them out of the
ditch.. Three years so far according to the bugzilla records.

Joe, I'm confused - you don't need to migrate from 1.4 at all. 1.5 and 1.6 will
just work using 1.4 profiles. What are you importing from? Netscape 4.x? That
should take a minute or two, unless you have a huge number of mail messages.
Without some details, it's hard to tell what's going on other than that you're
frustrated, which comes through loud and clear, but doesn't really help me fix
any problems :-(
Also, you don't need to uninstall Mozilla at all - you could just create a new
profile, copy over your files, make sure they're working, and then delete the
original profile.
