server, IMAP server don't answer in default timeout.
Changing the default timeout parameter can avoid the reported problem.
Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Connect to a IMAP server in a network very busy
Actual Results:
If Thunderbird can't connect the IMAP server in default timeout it say "Can't
connect to the server" (o similiar)
Expected Results:
Thunderbird wait for a more long time before say that it can't connect to the server

*** Bug 222831 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Same issue as described - also causes problems with saving to Sent Items folder
after sending a message - with same error message.
I can verify that this is a bug. It drives me crazy -- I'm sending via SMTP but
pulling/saving via IMAP -- so my compositions send okay but fail when attempting
to save to the Sent folder. Then I have to explicitly save to Drafts. By the end
of the day I usually have a dozen or so in the Drafts folder that I have to
manually move into the Sent folder.
This is the single most aggravating behavioral aspect of mozilla for me at the
moment. Perhaps a small bug, but a huge irriation that impacts usability.
I see that this bug is marked for Thunderbird, but I'm experiencing it with
version 1.6 of MailNews in the regular mozilla distro.
I see two possible solutions -- a) increasing the timeout or b) repeating the
attempt after failure. When I encounter it, I usually have no problems
immediately afterwards if I try again.
Thanks for all the good work.
Cheers,
Matt

Can Thunderbird generate an IMAP log as well? The instructions in the link
above do not seem to work. We are experiencing some reports of Thunderbird
failing to notice new messages on the server and I suspect IMAP autologout behavior.

yes the same instructions apply for seamonkey and thunderbird

I'm also seeing this in TB 0.7.1. When I still was using a netgear mr814 router
I saw the same thing as the person comment #3. Now with a linksys router it's a
bit better but a folder sometimes just doesn't open. I have to quit thunderbird
and then restart it again.

This is the IMAP conversation of me opening Thunderbird and sending a message.
I waited for some time for "Copy to Sent Folder" to complete. When it didn't,
I cancelled and tried to save to Drafts. That never completed either.
I'm using the latest version of Courier IMAP and Thunderbird 0.9. (Although,
I've seen the same behavior under the new RC1)
