User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20021130 Build Identifier: mozilla-win32-1.4.1-stub-installer.exe Just downloaded 1.4.1 stub to custom install (this PC just needs browser and feedback, not email, chatzilla, javascript debugger). When I ran the install wizard: Consented. Selected 'Custom'. 'A previous Mozilla installation...' : Selected continue. Unchecked all but 'Navigator' (greyed) and the Quality Feedback Agent(last item). Left folder as default: Mozilla Did *not* turn on 'Quick Launch'... box unchecked. Did *not* save install files locally; box unchecked. Read confirmation screen, pressed 'Install'. System tried to retrieve files via http/ftp; at the following URL: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/releases/mozilla1.4.1/windows-xpi/xpicom.xpi Got error 'Too many network errors trying to download xpicom.xpi. Setup will now Pause. Please click Resume to retry downloading the files.' Clicked 'Resume' a few times. Each time, got the same error. Went into command prompt. FTP'd to site, user ftp, my email acct as passwd. Tried to cd to the dir holding xpicom.xpi. Failed. Went in a dir at a time, found path broken. Correct path is : http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla-org/releases/mozilla1.4.1/windows-xpi/xpicom.xpi (note the 'mozilla-org', not 'mozilla') Email me if something I've written here in this 5-line window isn't clear. Kudos on the good work, all. --d2 ...the wizard began trying to download individual file components. Each attempt times out/errs. So I took the URL for the file: http:// Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.See Details. Problem and my guess of cause are detailed there. 2. 3. Actual Results: unable to finish custom install due to this error. I reinstalled using the non-stub (full version) download of 1.4.1. Expected Results: alter installer dirs. May need alteration in the 'custom' part of the install code.
This looks wrong for several reasons. First, you say the file is "xpicom.xpi"? It should be "xpcom.xpi". Secondly, please note that this is an HTTP connection, not an FTP connection. The following URL is correct, and works for me... http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/releases/mozilla1.4.1/windows-xpi/xpcom.xpi Perhaps you just caught the HTTP server at a bad time? Some of our round-robin servers have had problems but most are fixed now.
bsmedberg: you missed the point, the stub installer doesn't seem to be able to handle the redirect. Actually i'm having trouble verifying said redirect occurs

I know that the mirrors were marked fixed in the other bug, but I am still having a problem installing 1.4.1

Myk confirmed, this is a problem resulting from the transition to the new mirror system. The other bug was limited to fixing the daily stubs. At this point, the easiest solution seems to be removing the links to the Net Installers for 1.4.1. I've confirmed that this also affects the Windows stub. Losing the net installers for an old release (I suppose users could hack the config.ini if they really wanted it to work). Unfortunately, I don't have time to muck around w/ looking at all the other net installers.
