User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.5a) Gecko/20030803 Mozilla Firebird/0.6.1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.5a) Gecko/20030803 Mozilla Firebird/0.6.1 searching using the search bar doesn't work without the location bar on a toolbar. it doesn't matter what toolbar it's on or where, but the location bar must be on a toolbar (aka not in the palette) for the search bar to work. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: remove location bar from the toolbar then try to search using the search bar by entering text and hitting enter, or just hit enter Actual Results: nothing. no search results page, no response. Expected Results: search should work like normal tested in 0.6.1 and 0.7, various themes, and different mycroft plugins - all with the same result.
Confirming with a 2003-10-28 nightly build on WinXP.

Interesting. Yeah, same problem on the Mac version (20031029 Firebird/0.7+). Hardware and OS should probably be set to "All".

I'm upgrading the seriousness of this bug. I just tested it on a recent Mac Firefox nightly, and it seems to have become more insidious. Now if I remove the location bar, all menus (except the Firefox one) become inactive, so I can't even add it back again. If I quit and restart the browser, the menus are accessible again, but all bookmarks are missing, as are the toolbar bookmarks. I have to readd the location bar, quit and restart again to see the bookmarks again. So I consider this the equivalent of two crashes.

Actually, that would probably fall under bug 247603, which Jesse recently filed.

That could be a dupe of this one, although maybe the causes are subtly different. I confirmed this on a recent nightly on Windows XP today.

Confirmed on Firefox 0.9.3+cvs20040817 on Debian Linux. Searching Pages results in nothing but anger. Highlight works though, but is nothing compared to real search having a README of several 10k lines size... Reproducible: Always Steps to reproduce: Basically do nothing but hit CTRL-F and try searching. Find next/previous does nothing. Highlight works (alost) right except it DOES highlight text in Edit-Fields but does not un-highlight them...(which is another bug) No problem with older builds, did occur the first time when switching to Firefox 0.9.3+cvs20040817
Jim Ginn's patch on bug 247603 fixes this bug.
