Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007 Firebird/0.7 Build Identifier: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/0.4/thunderbird-0.4-win32.zip When a mail message is opened in a standalone message window and the viewer is partially scrolled down the message, and when Thunderbird retrieves a new message from a remote POP3 server (whether automatically or manually), the standalone message window moves the message in the standalone window _back_ to the top of the message. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open a long message into a standalone message window. 2. Scroll down the message. 3. Wait for a retrieval by Thunderbird of a new message from a mailserver. Actual Results: Message displayed in the standalone message window moves back to the top of the message from the position it was scrolled down to. Expected Results: The message in the standalone message window should _not_ move an iota on the receipt of a new message from a mailserver. This behavior has only been observed on a Windows-build of Thunderbird. Further tests, to see if this behavior is replicated in the Linux-build, will be forthcoming.
Confirming on Win2k with build 20031223

Ever confirmed: true
The same bug has been observed on Thunderbird's Linux-build (20031205).
I use Windows XP Home Edition. I have observed the same phenomenon (several times) when viewing long e-mails in the message window within Thunderbird (i.e., no standalone message window even being used).
I think this is a dupe of bug 220173. David: would you check that bug please, and see if you agree?
Well I can reproduce the bug and it really looks like a dupe. Let's see what David thinks.
Yeah, 220173 looks like a dupe of this bug. The only difference I can see is that instead of the preview pane, this happens in the standalone message window. Other than that, it looks the same.
Yup, it happens in both windows; duping. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 220173 ***
