Details
Leftover from bug 227657.
If incoming mail is filtered with 'Mark Read' and 'Move' the destination folder
is tagged with a New flag (green-arrow) in the folder pane. If mail is only
marked read but not moved, the Inbox does not get this tag. Since the messages'
New flags are cleared as part of their being marked read, the folder should not
be flagged.
The flag is cleared by selecting the folder.
Ideally, the account's New flag and notifications would be suppressed as well,
but that is bug 206050.

David, I'm not seeing this symptom for POP anymore with Moz 1.7. Do you know of
something that fixed it?
I am still seeing it with IMAP; however, there are fundamental differences
there:
- if moving to an IMAP folder, the folder name is bolded and the count is
incremented; when you click the folder, the msg is downloaded appearing unread
and *then* marked read.
- if moving to a local folder, using delete models of Remove Immeidately or
Move to Trash, the message is placed unread (but not new) in the dest folder,
and the folder is bolded as well as new (bug 254589).
- if moving to a local folder, using delete model of Mark as Deleted, the
message is marked unread. (If using a Classic-based theme, the folder is bolded
in this case as well -- see bug 201917 comment 14.)

This is true in Moz 1.7.x but is no longer the case with 1.8b2 builds nor in
TB 1.0.2 or nightlies. However, if the Mark As Deleted model is used, the Inbox
gets a New flag due to the deleted original copies now getting a new flag --
which is bug 291465.

... READ, *not* unread; and the message is (correctly) not New, but the folder
*is* New -- in Moz 1.7.7. Again, this is no longer true in current stuff (but
see bug 291454).
