User-Agent:
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040113
Beginning with Mozilla 1.5, I started noticing that the cursor would disappear
while composing an email. I would see the bug after hitting space, backspace,
enter(hard return). Unfortunately, this seems to be a more "global" problem in
that I also see the cursor disappear during text entry on web based email such
as Yahoo or Excite. The cursor does not lose its position, it just goes
invisible. I have seen the anomaly on most if not all TBird, FireFox and Mozilla
suite releases after 1.4.1.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.compose mail (plain text or HTML)
2.
3.
Actual Results:
Cursor sometimes disappears after hitting space, back space, enter (hard return)
Expected Results:
Cursor should never disappear.
I have seen this bug using classic, modern and sky pilot themes.
System resources are usually 65 to 75% free. 128RAM.
Logitech Control Center 9.29.3.100, mouse driver 9.29.2

The cursor disappears in CSS positioned divs
This is reproduceable easily in Win98

This is the complete HTML of a composition showing the bug
To reproduce, open a new message in HTML compose mode.
Choose insert HTML and copy the body portion of the attachment there.
Be sure to choose custom colors, and a background color.
Follow the directions in the attachment text to see the bug.

> bug 224804 ?
Yes, I believe this is the same error. I thought I had checked all the bugs very
carefully. My eyes are getting very old, but not too old to notice a
disappearing cursor. Does anybody else want to jump in before we mark it as a
dupe of 224804?
That bug goes back to 11/2003 I think.

I have seen this bug using Mozilla 1.6 after a clean installation of Windows
2000. While it's most noticeable in Mail Composition, I've seen it occur at
other browser text entry screens, including the bug report utility here. I'll be
typing text, and the cursor simply disappears, typically when near the right end
of the window, and often when typing a space between words. The cursor positon
is retained, just invisible, because I can keep typing and the text will append
normally to the end of the text string. The cursor will soon reappear after
typing commences. Also, if I stop typing when the cursor disappears, I can
reposition it by clicking with the mouse in a new location, and it will appear
normally at the new location. It occurs using the default preferences, including
appearance.
I see this bug recur at least 10 times a day. I hope I have entered my comment
at the right place. If not I apologize, it's not intuitive.

Thank you for adding comments to bug 234056. The only
other thing you may try is to vote for the thing. I
managed to add one vote, but very unclear how to add
more.
Can one of us confirm and change to NEW or does that
require a developer?

I'm still seeing this bug in Mozilla 1.7 under Windows 98SE. The text cursor
typically disappears after hitting the space bar at the end of a word while
composing an email message.

Thunderbird version 0.8 (20040913)
With this release more so than in earlier ones, the cursor (insertion point)
frequently disappears when I'm trying to enter or edit a "To:" address. Very
annoying.

Don't have a current Trunk build of Seamonkey, but assuming it's a Core bug, using
Thunderbird version 3 alpha 1 (20061012) this problem seems to be resolved.
Probably not neccesary to confirm in Seamonkey, but I will if you want.
Do you have any idea of what fixed this condition.

It's back !!!
Fedora 35
thunderbird-91.5.0-1.fc35.x86_64
In composition, the cursor disappears when on a blank line. Mouse to a line with some writing on it and the cursor comes back.
And it is not always repeatable. It only happens when you want to see where you are. It is the "anxiety detector" no doubt. The longer the document, the more likely it is come occur.
