Attached is a redesigned open location dialog. I believe it is an improvement
on the current open location dialog and I hope that it can be incorporated into
the Mozilla tree. This is not (yet) a complete overhall of the Open user
interface design in Mozilla, as I would like, but it a small incremental
beginining which I hope can be adopted without too much disagreement.

So, I'd like approval to check this in (after it has been reviewed of course).

A vast improvement over the current dialog!
yep, I like that one. Only implementation problem Don's team might see if the
component 'Composer' is not installed (if there ever would be such a config), how
do we know to disable that radio button?
Can we check it in? Don? That will help us close this bug and bug 23950

I'm re-opening.
Specifically, all means of opening pages using the "Choose File" button doesn't
work at all on the current Mac OS build (and didn't work in last week's build.
Didn't check other platforms; works fine when selecting "Open File..." directly
from the File menu.
This is probably a separate issue, but since half of the dialog's functionality
is inaccessible, I'm re-opening this one.
Reassigning QA to sairuh, who I believe owns Open as part of menus. Sairuh, if
this is yours, I'd suggest banging on it a bit further.

h'm. weird. yep, it's a problem on the mac comm bits [2000-02-04-10].
on winNT [non-comm 2000-02-04-10], the native file picker [File Open] always
seems to crash.
and on linux [comm, 2000-02-04-08] i seem to get a native dialog called Choose
File when following eli's steps. but going directly to File > Open File opens
another native dialog file picker titled File Open.
i really think the above should be opened as separate bugs. what do other people
think? bouncing this to don for his input...

I don't see any problems with the current dialog. Pavlov and I have been
tweaking it lately. The OS-specific bugs posted on 2/4 seem to be resolved.

Move to M16. So is this reolved? Can I close this?

I think so, but it's Bill's bug!

the current Open Web Location looks different that the latest screenshot
attached here --it's actually more svelte. ;-) in any case, it looks good, and
if we're gonna stick with the current design, i'd say resolve this.

I'm taking the liberty of resolving this bug. I can see some minor problems
with the current dialog, but the issues are better handled as new bug reports
instead of in this old report.
