Thanks Steffen. This sounds like an already known bug (bug 233047), although I
didn't think the problem existed for files downloaded from the official site.
The bug I mentioned is caused by the fact that the browser decompresses the gzip
file as it downloads, but the download manager doesn't realize that it's doing
it. The confusion is due to a misconfiguration problem of some Apache servers.
Could you please take a look at that bug and tell me if that's what's happening
here?

MacOS X.3.3
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8a) Gecko/20040425
Firefox/0.8.0+
No Problems with the official site download for me. The Speed measure
is just correct.

Steffen,
Can you tell us how you are trying to save the file? Are you trying to save it
by left clicking on it and telling it to save in the dialog? Or are you right
clicking on the link and then pressing save to disk? Could you please let us
know? Thanks.

By the way, Steffen, if you reply, please do so by following the link back to
this web page and entering your comments in the comments box.
If you reply by mail, it doesn't work. Your reply goes nowhere, but there's a
bug with the bugzilla mail daemon that means there's no bounce message to warn
you of that.

No reply, so duping to bug 233047
The official site was giving the "silent gunzip" thing for me about the same
time this bug was filed, which would explain why the reporter suddenly got this
error. Might have been a transient config. glitch.
