User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7b) Gecko/20040421 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.7b) Gecko/20040421 When an entry of windows explorer is copied to clipboard, Edit|Paste and RightClick|Paste are disabled in Composer, but Ctrl+V can still be used to paste the link. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Select some file in windows explorer and press Ctrl+C 2. Compose a mail 3. try Edit|Paste or RightClick|Paste 4. Press Ctrl+V Actual Results: All 3 Paste functions disabled in Edit and context menu but Ctrl+V pastes a file link. Expected Results: Enabled status of menu items and corresponding keyboard shortcuts should be consistent. "Edit|Paste without Quotation" would sometimes be useful for links copied from explorer. Ctrl+V or "Edit|Paste" is not useful for such links until Bug 220772 is fixed.
The Paste operation only works with the HTML editor; it is equivalent to dragging and dropping the file into the message body. If the message is in fact sent out as HTML, the file will be included in the message (as a MIME part) and the link will cause it to open; see bug 113435. I'm confirming this because it's true that the menu items are not usefully updated. Ideally, I think the "Paste" should change the text, altho I'm not sure to what -- "Insert link to file in clipboard" is what would be performed.
