Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.right mouse click image
2.choose save iamge as
3.save
Actual Results:
duplicate Jpeg extension is added to image file name
Expected Results:
The original pic.jpg should be saved NOT pic.jpg.jpeg

Reporter, what are your registry entries for
HKCR\.jpeg\Content Type
HKCR\.jpg\Content Type
HKCR\MIME\Database\Content Type\image/jpeg
I have same downloading rename extention issue on .mpg movies on Win98se,
nightly build 20040531
e.g.
rightclick "Save As..." will make the full filename "movie.mpg.mpa"
workaround: "Open Link in New Tab" will give propper extention

A once vanquished bug has once again reared its ugly head.
When a "Save As" window has an extension of ".jpg" already prepended, Moz 1.7
forces a ".jpeg" as well. The result is a file name with an extension of
".jpg.jpeg". Totally redundant.
IIRC, this same bug existed in 1.4 and/or 1.5, but was corrected in 1.6. Now it
is back.
Unless there is some immediate fix, I will be reverting back to Moz 1.6.

Is pic.jpg.jpeg already shown in the filepicker?

and, Don, could you provide the information requested in comment 2?
Confirmed this bug also in Firefox 0.9 and 0.9.1 on Mandrake 9.1. Al images were
stored as <foo>.jpg..jpg instead of <foo>.jpg. Somewhere during the upgrade from
0.7 to 0.9 this problem started to occur. It turns out my .mime.types was
altered somewhere in the upgrade process. The following lines were added:
#--Netscape Communications Corporation MIME Information
#Do not delete the above line. It is used to identify the file type.
#
#mime types added by Netscape Helper
type=image/jpeg \
desc="JPG" \
exts=".jpg"
I changed the last line to:
exts=".jpg"
This cured the problem for me.
I'm sorry, I f%&^ my previous one, the correct line in .mime.types should read:
exts="jpg"

hans, did the filepicker already show the wrong filename, or was it only saved
wrong after clicking save?

Yes, it did, it also gave the wrong extension in the pull-down filter thingy
(..JPG instead of .JPG).

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01".
This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.
While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.
If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
