User-Agent: Opera/7.50 (X11; Linux i686; U) [en] Build Identifier: I had a folder named "Inne" with some messages and subfolders in it. Then I tried to create a subfolder named "/.". Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: 1. Have a folder with subfolders and messages 2. Create a subfolder named "/." 3. Enjoy. Actual Results: It resulted in Thunderbird freezing (eating up 100% of CPU cycles). After restart I have "Inne" renamed to "/.", one new folder named "80a829e8". Changing name from "/." back to "Inne" fails with "The folder cound not be renamed. Perhaps the folder is being reparsed, or the name is not a valid folder name". Expected Results: Thunderbird should either use a clever "trick" to create such folder or deny it. I use version 0.6 (20040608) from unstable branch of Gentoo Linux.
I run win98 with Thunderbird 0.7.2 with build 20040707 and I also get this error with creating a folder starting with "/" and anything else.
Oh, SlashDot is one of the worst folder name for Thunderbird and Mozilla Mail. See Bug 140212 (/ in folder name) and Bug 117840 (ending dot). "CPU 100%" is caused by Bug 140212. See also dependency tree of Bug 124287, which is showcase of problems relate to special characters in folder name. You can choose any problem you want ;-)
Thunderbird does nothing when trying to create folders with a "/" in it (from what I have found). I was going to post a new bug but my purposed resolution to this bug would fix both (similar) bugs. Thunderbird should do some input validation while creating folders IMHO. - Mick (o> Web / software developer ( ) UNIX Systems Admin --- ~ www.mickweiss.com ~
Just stumbled over this, too. Using Thunderbird 1.0 (20050114) on Windows XP, I created a folder "BeOS/Haiku" :) and Thunderbird created a folder "BeOS" with a subfolder "Haiku" in it, all at once. I had no problems with the new folders, but this was obviously not what I wanted, so I just deleted the subfolder without problems. Could be a feature;), but then Thunderbird should ask the user. Better would be to perform input-validation like Mick suggested, just like the OS does when entering file/directory-names.
This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01". This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code. While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug (given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more reproduction information if you have it.
