User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040614 Firefox/0.9 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040614 Firefox/0.9 I installed Firefox 0.9 on my laptop(Compaq Presario 1711AP). There were no previous version of Firefox/Mozilla installed. However shortly after I run Firefox everytime, my screen would go blank and my HD produces no activity. I have to use the off/on button to restart my computer. When I uninstall it and use Internet explorer, the computer works fine. However if I do a clean reinstallation of Firefox, the problem appears again. I decided to see if Mozilla had the same problem but there was none. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Firefox and surf normally. 2. 3. Actual Results: Shortly after the pogram is opened, the computer screen goes blank(no visuals, all black). The hard drive produces no activity. However the power indicator light is still on. The computer needs to be restarted using the off/on button. Expected Results: It should just allowed me to surf normally and not cause the computer to "go blank" unexpectedly. Computer specs: Pentium III Mobile 933MHz 384MB RAM ATI Mobility Radeon 8MB Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 1 All updates for windows are installed

I asked about this problem in the Mozillazine forums. It appears that the full acceleration of the Mobility Radeon graphics card in Compaq laptops(not only this model) had some conflict with Firefox. (Not sure about other laptop brands). I was able to use Firefox normally when I decreased the hardware acceleration by one notch which "Disable cursor and bitmap accelerations. Could this be looked at so I can bring my hardware acceleration back to full?

I can confirm this happening with the Compaq evo n160 notebook also. I will try the work around.

You may look into bug 120893 and bug 104992 for more info. Best is to download and install the latest available driver for your graphic card when problem arises and to check first with Windows Update. Since the problem is related to the driver of the graphic card, I'm resolving this bug as DUPLICATE of bug 90657. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 90657 ***
