Details
(this problem comes from bug 19978)
- Go to http://developer/docs/manuals/htmlguid/index.htm
- Click a link on the index frane on the left. Don't move the mouse!
- Wait until the page is loaded
- Move the mouse cursor out of the link frame
==> The link color changes, marking it visited.
The link color is updated in nsHTMLAnchorElement::HandleDOMEvent() on
NS_MOUSE_EXIT. A solution would be to handle NS_MOUSE_MOVE (I think that
NS_MOUSE_MOVE is used for idle events; we don't have NS_IDLE events per se, do
we?).

Considering that in 4.x it wouldn't change to visited until you had reloaded the
entire left frame this is still a step in the right direction. Setting severity
and milestone

This bug has been marked "future" because the original netscape engineer working
on this is over-burdened. If you feel this is an error, that you or another
known resource will be working on this bug,or if it blocks your work in some way
-- please attach your concern to the bug for reconsideration.

Man, what an ancient bug.
Why is it so hard to just find the frame for the link and repaint it?
Comment 12•20 years ago
|
||
Yes, in brief, since you have to do this for all links that point to the page
that was loaded, in all windows.
Note that comment 0 has nothing to do with what currently happens -- we don't
change the state of a link to visited until the document is in is reloaded
(which is bug 78510, of which this would now seem to be a dup).
Depends on: 78510

The old behavior was probably because (1) we didn't optimize state changes as
well and (2) we didn't cache the visited state.
Duping to the better-tracked bug.
