Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040626 Firefox/0.9.1
Build Identifier:
A double click is detected even if the two individual clicks were on different
windows.
See bug 91338 for brethren.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
Easiest example is to just have two overlapping browser windows open with a lot
of text. Click once in one window, then quickly ALT-TAB and land the second
click in the other window without moving the mouse. The word below the cursor
in the second window is selected as if it was double clicked. Also happens when
when switching tabs (CTRL-TAB).
Use your imagination... Would also happen, for example, if a dialog Cancel
button (say, Add Bookmark) is over the empty area on the tab bar, first click
closes the dialog, second click hits the tab bar beneath as a double and opens a
new tab.
Happens with pretty much any Moz window in all apps i've tried - Firefox,
Mozilla, Thunderbird (but not across apps).
Many potential problems - a lot of computer noobs needlessly double click
everything, once they learn they need to double click desktop icons. Not to
mention accidental clicks and premature ecliculation.

confirming with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7)
Gecko/20040724 Firefox/0.9.1+
Though I feel this is dupe of bug 91337

Well, it may be a dupe, but just to clarify - i read through bug 91337 before
filing this one, and the main reason i felt this was different was because that
and the other bugs duped on it involved moving the mouse onto different objects.
This is about different windows moving under the mouse. But if that one fixes
this, then great.

Actually, i don't seem to be seeing this on Windows now, but i'm still (or am now) getting this on Mac in the latest 3.5.2 release of Firefox as well as a recent 3.6a2pre nightly.
As described before, clicking first on Add-Ons window, then swapping to browser (Cmd-` or Alt-Tab on Windows) and landing second click on text which then highlights the word as if i had double clicked on just that word.
In other double-click news:
I'm also noticing now a side effect of possibly some other double-click fix that interferes with clicking the tab close button repeatedly, the next click after a tab closes is eaten so i end up having to click the close button twice on the next tab. Still looking for what may have caused that, because it could be a fix for this.

FF 23b on Mac 10.8. I spent a while trying to get the proper rhythm of click / cmd-` / click so the clicks were at the same frequency as a double click, but I was not able to replicate the error. Each window behaved as if it received only a single click.
