Thunderbird version 0.7.3 (20040803) I've had this happen to me 3 times now in the last couple months, with the last several versions of Thunderbird, so it's definitely still out there... In every case, I have been travelling, and connect to a new network, and my wireless settings aren't quite right and I can't actually get to the Internet. Thunderbird tries to connect and fails. Once the wireless settings are fixed and I can connect, Thunderbird connects to the server and hangs. Quitting Thunderbird and restarting it, it proceeds to download every message on the server, including the ones I've already downloaded (so I get LOTS of duplicates).

I get this on Tbird 1.0.5 on WinXP only for email from my Gamebox.net account. Also, sometimes it downloads NO MAIL AT ALL when there are nearly 100 new messages!
sorry for the spam. making bugzilla reflect reality as I'm not working on these bugs. filter on FOOBARCHEESE to remove these in bulk.

bienvenu, any reason to believe this problem would be gone? jusdave wrote 2008-08-02 "I haven't seen it in ages, but then it's been ages since I've managed to have my internet connection go out while I was downloading" some similarity to bug 284526

Parkhideh, have you ever encountered this / can reproduce?

(In reply to Wayne Mery (:wsmwk) from comment #4) > Parkhideh, have you ever encountered this / can reproduce? Yes, I have encountered this problem in various ways. May be incorrectly, but I convinced myself each time that what was happening is caused by the bugs below. Bug 533098 - Fetch Headers Only, double-click on unread message opens tab|window, select click, no message displays. Bug 89034 - Using filters stops messages from being deleted on pop server. Comment #86. 1- If for any reason the delete from server does not work, then the duplicate e-mails mentioned here will occur. 2- The fetch headers only, bug 533098, was fixed when I last tested it. However, it was there when this bug report was created. That problem too can have been the root cause because I was getting duplicate and triplicate e-mails. 3- My recommendation is to solve the "delete from pop server" issue first before revisiting this bug.
