When I start MailNews and Mozilla (automatically) opens my first account (IMAP),
I get a password prompt even though prefs.js says:
user_pref("mail.server.server1.password", ".......");
user_pref("mail.server.server1.remember_password", true);

This in fact happens on every account. MailNews does seem to honor
remember_password set to true. This happens on IMAP and POP accounts.
To reproduce:
1. Edit prefs.js so that the password prefs for your account are set:
user_pref("mail.server.server1.password", ".......");
user_pref("mail.server.server1.remember_password", true);
2. Start MailNews
3. Open IMAP folder on that account/Get Msg on POP account
Actual result: Password prompt
Expected result: folder should be openend/messages downloaded without prompting
for password.
Linux build 2000.01.30.09. Changed summary.
Summary: Password prompt at startup despite remember_password=true → Password prompt despite remember_password set to true

The mail/news "remember password" prefs are going away in favor of the
product-wide "single sign on" feature, which is a generalized password storage
tool. It was developed for web pages, and we (mail/news) are going to use it
too. Reassigning to jefft, but I'm pretty sure this is invalid.

Yeah, both prefs should go away. We need jglick's help on redesigning the UI.
Let's leave this open until we remove them from the UI. cc'ing jglick...

With single signon turned on, and having previously checked "save password" in
the password dialog, I still get prompted for a password whenever I log into an
IMAP or POP server.
No longer valid for single signon.

Jeff, you wanted to leave this open until the "Remember password" was gone from
the Account Manager UI. It's still there, and if you have "Remember password"
checked but single signon off, you will still be prompted for a password.
I'll verify this (since with single signon ON there's no longer a password
prompt).

Good point. I'll reopen this and reassign to alecf who is responsible for
Account Setup UI.

Do we need this for Beta 1 for the specific case or should we release note?
