I was wondering if it would be possible to add a feature similar to one in Safari? I find it most helpful in
Safari when you highlight a link that is set to open in a new window, it shows the location in the status
bar, as well as "new window" (or "new tab" if you choose to open it in a new tab). I think that would be
really helpful so users wouldn't have to worry about new windows opening up on them all the time. If
not a status bar change, maybe a different mouse icon would work when the link target is a new
window/tab?

yeah, i've been thinking about this since i saw it in safari, but i'm not sure
we get enough info from gecko to display it. we'd have to extend gecko somehow i
think.

*** Bug 317734 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Firefox is thinking about this now (bug 279223) so that might get us what we want from Gecko if it's not already there.

Mike, from the looks of the partial patch in bug 279223, it seems like Gecko has everything needed (i.e., the patch is entirely to browser.js and their strings file).
This would be very cool to have in 1.1 if so.

If/When we do this, are we going to stick with text or add an icon? If we're not thinking of an icon, can we update the summary? (I personally think "in new window/tab" would be enough.)

Stuart, since you just fixed bug 341278, do you wanna take a look at this one too? This would be nice polish for 1.1, and it does appear we can get the information we need from Gecko.

BTW, whenever we fix this, we should try to make it work like Safari does with modifier keys, too, changing the string in real time as the key is pressed or released.

This bug has been buried in the graveyard and has not been updated in over 5 years. It is probably safe to assume that it will never be fixed, so resolving as WONTFIX.
