User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040206 Firefox/0.8 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040206 Firefox/0.8 I was making sub-folders in my Account folder and tried naming it "up/down" and then when I clicked on that folder I just got an endless hourglass, although I could right click it and would get the usual menu, but any of the options I choose don't work, just more hourglass. I went in with Windows Explorer and deleted the folder and restarted Thunderbird and all was fine. I then tried to duplicate the problem but now when I enter "up/down" in to the New Folder dialog box, when I click OK it doesn't do anything, not even close the dialog box, which is confusing, as I'm used to the little alert boxes that say "sorry invalid character" or something like that. Reproducible: Couldn't Reproduce Steps to Reproduce: 1.creat folders for the first time in your account with a fresh install 2.name the folder and include the slash ( / ) character in the name 3.hit enter Actual Results: endless hourglass Expected Results: I should have been warned that I was using an invalid character, and been given a list of what the commonly used invalid characters are
I just tried reproducing the error by naming a folder " /?%$#@!& " and it TOTALLY went crazy, made a bunch of folders with names like " 5611563 ", and now when I try to delete the /?%$#@!& folder it tells me "A folder with this name already exists. Please enter a different name" which is odd considering that I'm trying to delete it. The long and the short of it is that users should not be allowed to enter special characters, and they should be warned as to what exactly those characters are, as all other Windows apps do. My only solution at this point is to uninstall and reinstall as the folder system is shot.
Works for me using 0.8 build 20040903 in Windows XP. What build are you using? If it's older than three weeks, please try a later nightly build.
